I just checked, mines also came with a manual that doesn't correspond to the bafang DPC18 display that's actually on the bike. It's not too big of a deal. I did find this youtube video covering display operations, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNmvj9PiZ08.
Thank you. This is helpful.

Thanks for verifying. Do you know a procedure for bleeding without a bleed valve in the caliper? I've never seen a hydro caliper without one.

I've done a top bleed using the shimano cup and procedure but still cannot get the lever to firm up after multiple attempts. I know my front master cylinder is crap as it is leaking and reintroducing air in the system.

Reading around, there's a lot of complaints about the same issues with these brakes.

Thx
My nutt brakes for my scooter don't have a bleed valve either. I open the top reservoir and put an empty syringe there and inject mineral oil from the bottom with another syringe. Inject and also suck from the top until all air bubbles are gone. Then close up top reservoir so the liquid won't drip out from the bottom as quickly. Quickly remove bottom syringe and close the hole

Do you mind sharing an image of the front brake caliper to show the order of spacers? I did re arrange mine after a suggestion from one of the fellow sd'er here. But just want to confirm I have got it right. Thank you.
I can take a picture later. It was partially assembled on one side so I just copied the spacers for the other side

Appreciate the info but I've decided that I'm not dealing with these crappy and dangerous brakes anymore. I'll either replace them or send the bike back depending on Mendham's response.

Looks like my two bikes are a bust too. Sent UPS from LA of all places but beat up, nearly destroyed box all the same. From what I can tell the forks are a bit tweaked on the two bikes I received. The larger one, has both wheels too far out of true for me to comfortably imagine they'll be okay even when trued and to get the front wheel on and off either bike requires me to pull the forks apart as the space when the wheel would normally drop is too narrow for the wheel axle to fit through. I can only assume they clamped a bit tighter during shipment because I've never had to splay a fork to install a quick release tire before.
I can get the front wheel on eventually but the front brakes are still a hot mess. From what I can tell so far (out of patience trying to mess with it for a bit) there's no way for me to get the wheel spinning without the spacers being too close to the rotor causing them to rub against each other. Sort of makes me think one or both of the forks turned a bit during shipment.
Pretty sure the bike that's got both wheels out of true and fork damage has to go back. Letting myself think over the second bike for a while to decide if it's fixable or not. I don't know much about hydraulic brakes yet but I imagine that the pads should be in line with the rotor and these are at a pretty good angle.
I've tried the spacer in different orientations with different washer combinations but nothing is adjustable enough to make them flat to the rotor and avoid rubbing up against the screws. If anyone has any ideas though I am all about it.
Outside of the shipping damage... this is a really nice bike. I like most everything about it and sort of want to figure out a way to make it work even if it takes a bit. The full color screen is beautiful. The battery is hefty and substantial. The charger is just hot garbage and should be tossed. The fenders and rack are lovely.
Someone was saying earlier that all these bikes needed professional assembly and I disagreed. After receiving it I still disagree. It's putting on the handlebars, pedals and front brakes. If the bike was properly shipped it would be a done deal for anyone with a few minutes. The issues are such that anyone who has seen a bike will know if a wheel is not round or a brake is not braking.
Let me know if I am missing something obvious. Not sure I want to get involved in replacing the fork as that would eat up my 10 day return. I'll see what they have on offer. What a stupid way for them to ship these out. A little foam and a well built box could have made, vs cost, them a fortune.

I feel your pain!
It is such a shame that what seems like a decent bike is ruined by such crappy brakes and even crappier packaging. $3 in packaging and a little more diligence in the warehouse could have saved all these bent forks and wheels. What a waste of time, money and resources.

Inspecting my box further, I suspect that some of this damage occurred prior the final shipment to us end customers. Some of the rips and tears in my box had dust collected in the folds and the inside had more dust than could be attributed to just the shipping time to my locale. Maybe these boxes were previously damaged and they didn't bother to inspect them before shipping them out to us.

It's also weird that the boxes showed signs of being previously opened. And, why would they just hang the front caliper in a bag on the fork instead of installing it? I've bought a bunch of bikes online and never had the calipers not come pre installed. There's no reason from a packing standpoint as there is room in the box right where the caliper goes. Weird…

Best of luck dealing with Mendham. I've sent off pics of my issues and am waiting on a response.

Update:
Received my second pair of bikes. These actually had some cardboard bracing in them.

One has a bent fork. The second forks appear to be OK. Except it has broken wheel spokes. Might end up stripping the good parts of the other three broken bikes to make one functional.

shipping boxes all obliterated. however the plastic that braces the front wheel forks was still intact. the boxes had Alot more physical damage then the first two. however I dunno if UPS just keeps things standing up more often with a box like this VS FedEx. as the interior of the units as a whole were far less damage. these came from Cali to East Coast on a week trip vs a single day from NJ with FedEx.

they also had lithium stickers on them

Although it may not work if the fork is bent already, this is the arrangement of spacer that got me the best result without rubbing the disk and be able to get best braking power.

Also, what I noticed is, once you got the alignment of the disk and the caliper right, you have to be extra cautious while tightening it since it can mess up the angle as you tighten it and start rubbing against the disk.

There are two spacers between the disc brake tab and the brake adapter. I can't post pictures.

It's a shame that these bikes are packed so poorly and the brakes are kind of crappy.

For this price, it is still a deal. Instead of going through the hassle of bleeding these crappy brakes you could buy low end sealed shimano disc brake calipers and levers that you could just bolt on to these bikes.

They are only $20 to $30 on Amazon.

Super helpful. I've tried most combinations of two spacers between them, hadn't gotten to three on one side five on the other yet! If you have a second, I'm a little curious... does your wheel just drop down into the front forks or do you have to wrangle it a bit? Every other QR bike I have had you just open the QR, make sure the brakes are open and it mostly falls in. The axle on mine seems to be wider than the C shaped opening on the forks that I expect it to fit in... that's new to me.

Just to be clear the image is top to bottom. So, I have three spacers on top. And 5 at the bottom. The front wheel hub extensions on either side are not actually sufficient long enough for them to rest by itself into the c shaped opening of front fork. So, I made sure to keep the wheel centred. Put the springs on either side of the spindle and then keep tightening it until you get the the fork to be centered on either side of the wheel hub. Two springs on either side and they should be facing in opposite direction (like a V) on either side, so that they are pushing each other

Most importantly, out of the two screws for caliper. One is longer another shorter. I have the longest one at the top and shorter one at the bottom

Just to drop another data point…

I just completed a capacity test to the battery's low voltage cutoff point. From full to LVC was 10.93Ah capacity out of a claimed 11.6Ah. So the initial test shows this battery has degraded ~5.8% from calendar aging.

That's not great, but not as bad as I feared since my battery showed up fully discharged. There's a chance it may improve a bit through the first few cycles but I have my doubts.

I may cycle it a few times while I wait for a resolution on my brakes and shipping damage issues. I'll report back if anything changes.
