Steel tape you can push. Line you only pull on it's own, but you can also suck it through conduit with a shop vac on the other end and a piece of paper or foam on the end of the line. IMO it's best to have both on hand for different circumstances, and for steel tape I'd recommend connecting line to it once you've fished the tape through so you're only pulling the line with the tape and not wire to help maximize the life of the tape. Then pull the wire through with the line.

Still overpriced in my opinion. I switched to plain poly line years ago. But I only primarily run ethernet line and not electrical, but I see electricians use the same Everbilt spool of poly line that I use.

Impressive that they could fit that much into such a small container.

Is this a replacement for the steel fishing tape? Or do I need that and this?

Last weekend, I thought I may need some pulling line and so found this in HD, looked at the price, turned around and walked away. I figured that if I needed it, I could make do with the twine I had at home. That being said, at $8.99 for 500', it's about the price of 'regular' poly twine.

P.S. My favorite question in the Q&A on this product at HD is "What is the difference between this and the free one they give outside for tie down for car?". Of course neither of the responses could articulate a convincing answer.

Here's the last spool I bought. It's more of a rope than a twine, but it's been perfect. I dont take the whole spool with me to jobs, I put about 1000' onto a ethernet cable spool so it will run on the wire rack with the cable. It goes on sale for around $35 several times a year.

But I've seen electricians use the exact same one as mine with the full 6500 foot spools, especially in store remodels/construction.

Was actually looking for this but now OOS. Good suggestions on cheaper solutions though.
