Read up on the latest Secondipity reviews here before you purchase.

TLDR : Avoid secondipity

I've had nothing but success when I've purchased through Secondipity. Granted, you are taking a gamble whenever you're getting anything second hand "refurbished" items from eBay.
I've bought 3 Sony earbuds (XM4 + 2x XM5) + 2 headphones (XM4 + XM5) + 1 Marshall Emberton speaker and they've all been great.
Earbuds had a bit of wear but nothing some cleaning up and sanitizing couldn't fix. Charging was tricky but that's expected with all Sony earbuds cases, mostly due to QC from Sony. Still charges and holds power just fine. Sound quality is still top notch compared to Bose + JBL + Beats
Headphones were all essentially brand new. Minor scuffs and smudges but nothing showing any type of "wear" on the earcups+headband. No charging issues nor sound quality issues.
The Emberton showed it had been used and minor scratches on the back - holds charge just fine and use it nearly every day (had it for 2 years)

Take this as you will, but like I said, my experience has been positive thus far.

why not buy a brand new AKG N9 for $143?
How does this compare to the xm4 and xm5?

I had a very good experience with my secondipity Sony refurbs a year or so ago - I got a common bug where one earbud's battery started draining at a rapid pace. I contacted the insurer and they mailed me a refund check for the full price of the headphones, basically no questions asked. Allstate insurance coverage is way better than a warranty in my experience because you have your money back in your pocket and can buy a newer pair of headphones if you want or get a better deal.
I had the same issue and Sony was helpful until I looked up the receipt and told them they were from Secondipity. Their stock is blacklisted, no support. I forgot about Allstate, will try that. Thanks!

This is the best headphones I have ever owned. Not sure I would buy refurbish though because of the battery life and this being in someone's ears before.

If you're putting these headphones 'in your ears' you're doing it wrong

They're legit and refurbished items from them look brand new and their customer service is great in case of issues. I was given a full refund when had an issue. Don't knock them before trying …
Problem is… most of us HAVE tried them. I'm struggling to understand how a less than 30% discount on a hit or miss, 2nd hand item, where defects may or may not be detected in the next 30 days can be considered a good deal.

Makes no sense whatsoever.

I received mine a few days ago. Arrived without a box but everything else looked brand new.

Secondipity is awesome. I've purchased a lot of items from their eBay store over the years and they're always like new. They're an official Sony refurb seller and items come with a warranty.

Learn from my experience. Buy "refurbished" or "open box" items at your own risk. I bought an "open box" earbuds on eBay. They turned out to be 'used' items with almost a dead battery. People can always trade in their long used items and mark as "open box". How do you it's the same item? The serial number is not imprinted on the item itself. Spend a little bit more money and buy "brand new, sealed" items which will last much longer. It's not worth buying "refurbished" or "open box" items. It's my two-cent.
These have a two year warranty, and you can also return for free if you get them and don't like them, or they are 'used' too much. Mine came looking brand new.

I saw on this site that brand-new M4 ones were on sale for $165 at Fred Meyer or eBay last week.

If they come with a two year warranty, would this back up any issues the headphones might have?

Who but an audio expert needs $200 earphones?

This is companies convincing us that we need (or "deserve") ultra-luxury products. I know multiple companies are doing it, but that doesn't justify it.
You must be new to headphones. These are hardly ultra-luxury, but very good and reasonably priced headphones. For most of us who enjoy headphones as a hobby, our ears are what convince us, not any company. That's like saying auto companies convince us to drive instead of walking 20 miles.
