Amazon has this all the time 10lb bags for 10.91 and occasionally 8$. Doesn't seem that slick.
I checked Amazon and the 5pound bag is $8.98
There is no 10 pound bag. Next size is 15 pound bag for $28.77.
So this is a slick price imo

I suspect they were thinking of Nishiki, which is also California medium grain, and routinely < $11 for 10#, occasionally < $9. Also frequently < $6 for their 5# brown rice. Nishiki is pretty decent for basic Calrose, especially considering the price, but it also gets close to or occasionally under $0.50/lb B&M at Asian markets and some Costco/Sam's regions.

Amazon has a huge problem with foods that are delicate

Whatever they spray in warehouses for pest control permeates all of their products with some odd artificial scent

Rice would not immune to such

I'm sure Walmart is the same… but at any rate this deal is cheaper all I said it wasn't a slick deal. If you need it sure why not. Some people don't want 20lbs so get 10lbs for roughly the same cost per lb.

That's scary. Luckily, I haven't experienced this yet. Probably because the Blue Diamond almonds I ordered from them are in sealed bags, but it'd be a problem for rice and other foods that are packaged in breathable bags.

lol I failed to see how your relative's rice growing makes you the expert on rice processing, aging and marketing. Your lack to understanding that ALL rice is purposely aged before it makes it on the shelves makes me believe that your relatives are just cash crop growers and lack the vertical integration to process, and market the rice themselves. I know plenty of cash crop farmers that think they are excellent farmers by dumping as much roundup and fossil based fertilizer as they can to get their yields up.

Improperly stored rice will degrade.....just like improperly stored wine that you mentioned benefits from aging.

You really need to use google more often.....type in "premium aged rice" and hit enter. Your mind might be blown to find, say 7 years aged imported Italian rice: https://www.amazon.com/Acquerello...B00BGGGLXM

I have frequented many Asian and Middle Eastern stores, not ONCE did I see Rice advertised as "new crop" to churn sales. Not that some used-car-type retailers might engaged in such sales tricks praying on the clueless
Your comments prompted me to google about it and it seems the cruxed of the difference between you and your sparring partner is around the type of rice. 99% of what I see regarding aged rice is basmati, popular in the Indian sub-continent and Middle East. Calrose is a medium-grain, more popular farther east, along with short-grain, especially in Japan and Korea.

My household frequents Chinese, Korean & Japanese markets and at least for Japanese style rice "new crop" is pretty much stamped on everything and preferred. I'm guessing some of us were simply ignorant about the differences with Basmati and perhaps other rice varieties.

Third, this person thinks Walmart & Amazon have no mechanisms for returns. 🤯
Non-returnable due to Food safety reasons
This item is non-returnable due to potential safety risk as an ingestible product, but if the item arrives damaged or defective, you may request a refund or replacement through Your Orders by providing an image of the item and its defects.

I wouldn't take any advice from this person. 1) they think rice expires 2) they don't know rice is purposely aged to improve flavor and aroma.....
If you believe that, then why not buy 20 year old "properly stored rice" from overstock unsold products liquidators? Right next to the rancid flour. Oh wait, it's not old, it's "aged"…! Should taste exactly the same by your logic.

People will argue any nonsensical point on here. Never met a guy in life that would defend expired rice, but I hope you're serving in our military with that level of vigilance.

It's not restricted to type of grain. Carnaroli is also medium-grain and gets aged up to a decade. "New" rice......relatively new.....is basically good if you want sticky stuff with little flavor.
