How do you have a favorite rice? No offense, what's the difference between this and "normal" long grain white rice?
Texture, flavor, sticky ickyness. I was raised off long grain jasmine but prefer medium and shortgrain. Calrose is pretty good. My favorite is brown short grain but it goes rancid before I can finish. I should vacuum seal and freeze it next time

lol I failed to see how your relative's rice growing makes you the expert on rice processing, aging and marketing. Your lack to understanding that ALL rice is purposely aged before it makes it on the shelves makes me believe that your relatives are just cash crop growers and lack the vertical integration to process, and market the rice themselves. I know plenty of cash crop farmers that think they are excellent farmers by dumping as much roundup and fossil based fertilizer as they can to get their yields up.
Improperly stored rice will degrade.....just like improperly stored wine that you mentioned benefits from aging.
I have frequented many Asian and Middle Eastern stores, not ONCE did I see Rice advertised as "new crop" to churn sales. Not that some used-car-type retailers might engaged in such sales tricks praying on the clueless
You are making a fool of yourself. It's not only that my mom's family runs a rice farm, but I'm also originally from Japan. And, to run a rice farm in Japan means, you actually have to be good at it. It's not like selling rice to clueless people in America. I know all about rice. The fact that you think one needs to google is already the proof that you have no idea. The internet is not the best source of facts vs true knowledge from someone who has real life experiences and long agricultural traditions. You may not know this, but in Asia, the kind of rice you seem to be talking about (long grain rice like Jasmin rice) is considered the lowest grade rice. Japan only imports and consumes it when there is a really bad harvest that leads to lack of rice. Otherwise, it's not something they consider eating at all. A big part of the reason those low grade rice is infused with stuff like Jasmin is to make it more edible because it just doesn't taste good as is. Why do you think they are far cheaper than premium short grain rice? This is SD, so I wouldn't be surprised if you tend to buy those cheap long grain rice, but that means, it's like you are arguing what good wine is when all you drink is some cheap screw top wine. Try not to argue based on your ignorance and some info you found on the internet.

Google/internet is not source of facts? So all that PREMIUM AGED rice found for sale on Amazon that's dollars per oz, is just what? Fake news? LOL Just stop.....
I tried to reason with you, but then I just realized I was wasting time with a troll. Just looked at your post history. I've never seen anyone who collected so many TDs all over. Get life. Thank goodness for the ignore feature Goodbye.

I'm sure you are right. The price sure blew my mind. $60 for 15 pounds on Amazon.
Haha. Yea, it's expensive, but you may be able to find it $35-$45 at a local Asian grocery store. I know that's still expensive, but it's totally worth it. When I was young and broke, Calrose was a good option to have, but now I can't bring myself to buy it even at this price. I hope you get a chance to try it. There's nothing like quality food that makes us feel alive!

I didn't know there was an ignore feature; thanks for mentioning it! I'm going to place this troll on my ignore list too.

You really need to use google more often.....type in "premium aged rice" and hit enter. Your mind might be blown to find, say 7 years aged imported Italian rice: https://www.amazon.com/Acquerello...B00BGGGLXM [amazon.com]

There is no 10 pound bag. Next size is 15 pound bag for $28.77.
So this is a slick price imo
