Don't know if you need to hear this but it's okay to sit this one out, especially if you already have a pair (though I totally understand where you are coming from). If it helps: these were on sale for $129 before and like you said they go on sale often, so you could always wait for them to hit that price point again.

I ordered the black from BuyDig last night. I had a great experience with them many years ago and I see they are 60 days for returns rather than 30. They already shipped this AM. Via USPS instead of Fedex. At least that offers the chance for Saturday delivery. (I'm in N. Cal and these are shipping from their NJ location, so with the holiday... Saturday may be optimistic.)

Update: Just noticed this. It shows AMAZON as the shipping partner. Weird!

By the way, I had refurb XM5s from Secondipidy. They developed that random shutdown issue after the FW update and I sent them back. They were otherwise just okay IMO. I really had to EQ them like crazy to pull dialog and vocals out of the mud.

How good\bad are these for calls? I'd like a set to use with calls on different platforms, but I haven't seen anyone comment on call sound quality.

Thanks for sharing your experience with these. The reason I was interested was that several people I know claim they have the best ANC for blocking out people talking nearby. In the end, that wasn't enough to convince me to buy them.

soundwise, agree. They're not going to sound as good as Verum's or HiFiMan.
But that misses the point of these headphones. The things they do "beyond competently" is noise cancellation, along with sounding decent for a headphone. If you're a frequent flyer, these are among the best. Great noise cancellation paired with decent sound and good comfort.

If you don't need noise-cancelling headphones, you shouldn't even be looking at these IMO.

Nothing Bluetooth and audiophile should be in the same sentence period.
I got the wife some Q45's I got these and the AKG N9 to try out so I'll have a personal comparison and I do have about 15 pairs of various mid to high end headphones already but I wanted something portable to use with my steam deck or tablet when I am not feeling earbuds, especially the N9's as they also have the USB 2.4ghz transmitter that should get rid of any latency issues and take away all the pain of pairing bluetooth.

Agreed. Although I will say, with LDAC on, listening to a lossless source, EQ'd properly, you would be hard pressed to do better under $200. Overall package.

Not great for call quality, passable if you are in a quiet area. If you need Noise Cancelling, the XM5 has much better call quality.

Are these good for flights? I've been using a pair of original AirPods so almost anything would be better but would prefer not to have to buy another pair of headphones again for a while. Would probably use this mainly for flights a few times a year.

Flights are one of, if not the #1 best reason, to own these. Very good ANC for engine noise.
