I just bought a Bamboo A1 3D printer and to my surprise they're recommending WD-40 Multi-use as a lubricant. The "Industrial" part here seems to refer to the can size.

So I guess I'm in for one and hope and pray it doesn't destroy my printer...

Can you use wd-40 as a substitute for penetrating oil? I have a repair coming up and will likely encounter some rusty bolts.

It's a jack of all trades, master of none.
"WD-40 Multi-Use Product protects metal from rust and corrosion, penetrates stuck parts, displaces moisture and lubricates almost anything." https://www.wd40.com/products/industrial-size/
You might have better luck with their "specialist" penetrant: https://www.wd40.com/products/penetrating-oil/

This stuff smells terrible. Very similar to Dawn Power wash dish spray.

I had a need for this last week and am fairly sure it was already down to this price. Don't have Prime and couldn't wait for shipping, so I just bought WD-40 (same volume) for 14 cents more at my local Target

Fun Fact: The "WD" stand for "Water Displacement". The "40" stands for "40"

It doesn't do it as well as penetrating oil... or PB blaster, between the two, I would rather buy PB blaster instead.

I used both on a old 2002 LX470. It didn't see snow and salt, but it was a rusty mfcker lol. I used both WD-40 (not industrial) and ultimately had to buy PB blaster for 1 side. On another side I had to use heat.

On my wife's RX350, I skipped penetrating step and just went straight to heat + oil and broke it loose lol... (these parts did not have rubbers or anything - just bolts)

Industrial size? Challenge accepted. Here in Japan our stuff comes in 30oz mega cans. And it's cheap too, like $2 a can for this brake cleaner.

awesome! I don't know if i can get heat where this bolt is. But that's definitely a good idea. I have to get a proper bolt heater.

It helps, i was hesitant and very scared to do it at first.... I was more worried I'd warp metal than damage stuff (The bolt was clear from wires and rubbers, so I was good)

Food for thought.... If the bolt is in a place where you don't want the heat spreading, you can try using a make-shift heat-shield. If you want to take it a step further, you can use exhaust wrap on the shield to REALLY insulate it from hitting the other side. (But I think exhaust wrap can get esspensive, against SD rules lol jk)

Anything beats taking my cars to the shop... I've gone as far as head gaskets on my own, changed out my own clutch too (coincidentally never had to use heat, only used it for suspension haha!). The 20 or so times i've take it to ANYONE, nobody ever does it right, even the dealer misses screws here and there, and nothing drives my OCD more bonkers than missing screws of tabs. (i'm not a mechanic, but I sometimes damn near feel I inspect the mechanic's job like one)
