Anybody know why Ego has both 4Ah and 5Ah batteries in their lineup? Seems like they'd cannibalize each other's sales. Is the 5 being discontinued in favor of the 4?

I have wondered the same thing about them. Pretty much has to do with marketing of their products. I have seen the 4.0 batteries showing up in more places lately too.

Has anyone tried the knock off brands from Amazon with any luck? Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CFL63...WSMQEZFAXI

The 4.0Ah was supposed to be deprecated (according to Ace manager a few months ago). So this is likely clearing out old rev. However it seems it's back on their website so they may be looking for specific price points now that their batteries are so overpriced since lithium costs have decreased 80% in the last 18 months. Looks like they added one for every Ah now. https://egopowerplus.com/battery-info

I think I saw a legit review on these (Project farm on other versions) but even so the warranty and it's not really OEM. I hate to say I have had bad luck w/ China brands and when you are dropping more than a few bucks YMMV.

My MO is to buy the bundles and flip the tool so I only end up paying $40-$50 for the batt.

The 4.0 is listed in their 2025 catalog so doubt it's discontinued.

The 4.0 weighs less and is cheaper. The 5.0 has 25% more capacity. Don't see how these are the same thing at all.

Ego has more incremental steps in their battery lineup, which is a good thing imo.

Yes I believe I said that, at one point they pulled it but it looks like they changed their mind. I have 5 and 7.5 (I think( and the smaller 2.0 which is reasonable for the power tools. \

At one point there was an article (no longer exists) which showed how the 4Ah wasn't as balanced as the 5 Ah in the 56V S/P config so either they fixed that or marketing took over.
