Do yourself a favor and get a USB extension cable at the same time. This unit often has interference issues that a extension can fix.

Zigbee is a communication protocol for low-power usage sensors - door opening, motion/occupancy, temperature, leak detection, etc.

This dongle would be used with a PC or Raspberry Pi acting as a server for a home automation software such as Home Assistant.

Moved to SMLIGHT and boy was that a big mistake. There is an ongoing issue with their PoE dongles that hasnt been cleared up for months. This thing was rock solid, but i had issues with USB at times so i thought he SMLIGHT was gonna help but all its caused is more issues. This is a good deal on this dongle.

Bought this back in November for a much higher price. Works great with Home Assistant. As someone else said, buy a USB extension cable with it to avoid interference being too close to other equipment.

There are plenty! Aqara brand sells different kinds of IoT devices which use the zigbee protocol.

I just got it last week, so I don't have a lot of experience yet.... but I did pick up an Xfinity door sensor from Amazon. Works really well, so ordered a 5 pack for about $20 on ebay (much cheaper on eBay than Amazon).

I have some water sensors and push buttons coming from Aliexpress.

This is the go-to USB zigbee dongle at a great price, but I highly recommend the SMLIGHT ethernet ones as they are a lot more flexible (can place anywhere with ethernet, no need to USB connect to the device) and also will probably give fewer compatibility issues depending how you use them (e.g., no need to pass through USB to a VM)
