Do yourself a favor and get a USB extension cable at the same time. This unit often has interference issues that a extension can fix.

Zigbee is a communication protocol for low-power usage sensors - door opening, motion/occupancy, temperature, leak detection, etc.

This dongle would be used with a PC or Raspberry Pi acting as a server for a home automation software such as Home Assistant.

Anyone offer suggestions on steps/value to migrating to this setup from samsung smarthings v2.0 hub. Samsung has some limitations but ive had no issues with automation devices and setup using smartthings app/ui or integration to google home app/ui.
Ive just had smart things for 10 yrs now and realize eventually hardware fails and smartthings will stop being maintained at some point.

TIA

The P version is mainly plug and play. The E version is newer and has more bugs and features that may be more technical to configure.

Can this be used in tandem with a Zwave USB already attached to HA?

I did that about a year ago for the same reasons. Not sure if there is a more efficient way, but I had both networks running simultaneously for a few weeks. Z-wave devices were the most time consuming to switch over. I excluded from SmartThings, then added them to Home Assistant one at a time. It took awhile to get everything switched over so I did them in batches over a few weeks. Zigbee and cloud integrations were straightforward.
Automations are pretty different in HA vs ST, but there is a lot of information online and pre-built blueprints for most things.

Moved to SMLIGHT and boy was that a big mistake. There is an ongoing issue with their PoE dongles that hasnt been cleared up for months. This thing was rock solid, but i had issues with USB at times so i thought he SMLIGHT was gonna help but all its caused is more issues. This is a good deal on this dongle.
I literally completed a migration from this usb stick to smlight poe, what issues are you having? people were saying smlight was way better. I hope i dont have any issues

This is the go-to USB zigbee dongle at a great price, but I highly recommend the SMLIGHT ethernet ones as they are a lot more flexible (can place anywhere with ethernet, no need to USB connect to the device) and also will probably give fewer compatibility issues depending how you use them (e.g., no need to pass through USB to a VM)
I'm planning on converting an old computer into a server that would run home assistant, would it be difficult getting this dongle to work with HA running in docker? or should i go the other route you mentioned?
