The only way to get Atmos is to have in-ceiling, on-ceiling, or at the least, "height" speakers, in that order of effectiveness. Those built-in upfiring "Atmos" speakers are just a worthless sales gimmick.

Look, it's very simple: Atmos is all about adding VERTICAL sounds together with horizontal sounds. To get upward firing speakers to bounce the sound so that it hits the listener at MLP in any convincing fashion is pretty much impossible if those upfiring "Atmos" speakers are stuck to the top of your tower or bookshelf speakers. At BEST it MIGHT provide a somewhat more scattered soundfield but it's NOTHING like real Atmos provided by correctly aimed in- or on-ceiling speakers.
You're right. There is no such thing as a set of "Atmos enabled headphones". Someone should inform Dolby that they are incorrect.

I have these speakers. A bit fatiguing at first but give them time and they will sound wonderful. I recommend them.

Just like every other BUSINESS on the planet, Dolby licenses out its name to the highest bidder, doh. Do you seriously believe "THX" certified means a damned thing? If yes then I'll gladly sell you my $100 Logitech 2.1 system that has "THX" written on it...hell it's so crappy sounding I'll give to you for $20!

I have a thx certified 4.1 Logitech system from 2000. Thing is seriously great. But thx meant something 20 years ago.

How far away from the walls do you have them? Some of the reviews state you have to keep them out in space so the bass doesn't dominate.

Only about a foot right now, which isn't ideal. I do have a bit of treatment behind them though, and my amp (NAD M10) has Dirac (room correction), which definitely mellows down some of the boominess that my (non-ideal) placement causes.

I second this. I have RP-600M II's and a 504C II center that I'm in the market to replace. They do sound really great for movies and TV, but can tire my ears out.

The problem is the center channel is some of the cleanest vocals I've heard with men's voices actually having correct bass weight. I "may" end up with new LR and keeping the RP center, lol.
