My thinking is that I can NEVER have enough back-ups.(of back-ups of back-ups) because any one of them can and probably will fail several years down the road?
When big SSDs4TB or 8GB+ are cheap enough, I may also look into getting some of those as another form of back up?
Sound paranoid... well... yes... becuase while I was backing up stuff, two of my back-up drives died within a day of each other, (one WD and one Seagate) and I lost all of my converted film and photos between 1980 and 1985.
Update: All four drives are the same.

The thing is that the backups would be available to anyone for years but since the data would be encrypted and the names obfuscated there should be very little risk; in theory that is. I'm too much of coward to try this out for myself though

I used the $5 off coupon that Best Buy randomly sent me via email recently that was spoken of in this thread. The total was $237.36

PS, regarding encrypted on usenet. Nah, I'm not doing that especially with sensitive data. Today that encryption might hold, tomorrow it might not.... Cool idea though.
If you need replication, I'd just get Synology (or something similar) and sync them from different locations.

Briefly looking your source and based on AFR, it looks like both Toshiba and WD has much earlier failure rates. There's a spike on the Seagate drive, but overall they seem to be in-line.
What am I missing?
That's still pricey (for me). Say to backup this 20TB drive, it would cost roughly $80/month. Glacier S3 from memory also takes time to get access. However, it's likely among the cheapest options out there.

It's probably good enough for most people and considerably cheaper than paying monthly. Assuming you already have internet at both locations (with one having fast upload speed), it will pay for itself pretty fast.
Only lower I've seen is sales tax free states like Oregon.
Definitely bad warranty, but from what I gather these contains EXOS and IronWolf's drive (except for the recent Barracuda drive that may be HAMR drive to boot). Supposedly the inner drives are registered with a different warranty period, but I have not heard anyone claim on those to see if Seagate honors that.
If it's an EXO or Ironwolf, they're good enterprise drives.
