FWIW I've had luck buying GC in the past and just using it wherever. That trick works well when the offer excludes (or includes) only certain properties. e.g. let's say it was only for Residence Inns. So, go to a Residence Inn, buy a GC, then use it at any property. Never had an issue getting the AE credit. The larger issue tends to be that selling GC's is such a rare thing at a hotel, the clerk might not know how to do it.

Just to check, I am using points randomly for a local stay. Resort fee is like $100, and we are gonna be eating at least dinner two nights so should hit $250 easily. If resort fee and food charged to the room, will this trigger as long as it hits the limit?
c'mon people....enugh with the stupid questions. The only thing that matters is the total of all charges when you check out. coffee, tea, parking, dinner, lunch, breakfast, tips left, WHATEVER is charged to the room counts towards the total..

home villas $250 off $1000
A coffee charged to the room counts. No need to go overboard if they don't want to.

While Marriott has seriously gone to crap lately, it's still good in Europe, mostly. Ah well, maybe next time.

Was a good excuse to go in and run through the Amex offers and add them all to my cards.
