Pretty great deal for an intro set of power tools! If you don't own a drill, this is a good first set and a good price for it! If you're looking to build up a power tool inventory, then research the battery ecosystem(s) you want to invest in before making your purchase unless you're willing to rebuy some tools or go with multiple ecosystems.

For those who are buying their first set: The drill and impact driver look very similar but have two different purposes. The drill is good for drilling holes and putting screws into "light" materials (such as drywall). The impact driver is good for driving screws into harder materials (such as wood). If you try to drive a screw into wood with a drill, it's easy to strip the screw head because of the speed that the bit will turn as it's slipping. The impact driver makes tiny little movements (very quickly) that help prevent it from slipping and you're less likely to strip the screw head. (It is kinda noisy though.)

I've watched many and they were all complimentary of the tools, particularly for the price. Torque Test Channel on YouTube showed that the Skil 12v impact wrench was actually more powerful than the Milwaukee, with default batteries anyway.

Do you happen to have a link to one you watched that were negative about these?

It's interesting you mention this I am not sure how many people read about the FLEX tools with their leaking batteries it's interesting because Flex and Skil are the same company.

I have the Skil impact and it's pretty great. That ring light around the chuck is a nice addition.

This is an incredible deal. I have bought this set several times, a few years ago it was on sale for $100, thought it was an amazing price, now at $79, if you need these types of tools, it is a no brainer. These are actually great quality tools, all brushless (except for light and speaker, haha), love them for their performance and light weight and the oscillating multi-tool will be the best tool you never know you needed! The light and speaker is just a bonus, what not to love!

I currently have 2 of these sets for my personal use, have bought several as gifts. I have a set in my outdoor shop and a set in my basement workbench area.

I bought this set several weeks ago just for the Multi tool. Very solid with adjustable power levels. The Bluetooth speaker is nothing to write home about, but it does work.

Skill makes excellent tools, better than Ryobi. However, they don't have as large a selection as Ryobi does and Ryobi does not make a 12 volt tool. All of their tools are 18 volt or above. These are great tools if you want something small and compact with lots of power that doesn't cost much. I've been using Bosch 12 volt since the early 2000s for doing odd jobs around the house. I have several of them, including oscillating tools, drills, impact drivers. I bought this exact same set from skill before Christmas for $75 as Christmas gifts. Have not been disappointed. if you buy one, check out Amazon for a 4 amp hour latest generation battery for $50 if you want even more power from these tools.

Depends on the task. I don't have experience with Skil 12v but have used Hitachi 12V, Milwaukee 12V, and Ryobi 18V.

For tasks that doesn't require as much power like most drilling and driving, I reach for the 12v every time. The 12V tools are noticeable lighter and less prone to strip the screws due to less torque.

For tools that require more power like reciprocating saw and circular saw, the 18V wins.

So if you have to pick one system, go with Ryobi 18V for their wide selection of tools at great prices. But I actually recommend also getting 12V drill, driver, electric ratchet, and lights if you can swing it.

I had bought a Skil powertool kit late last year, and returned barely a month later. Leaky batteries ruined our rug, and while that may have just been a fluke, I've never had a leaky battery issue from any other brand of power tools. Especially NEW.

These are awesome tools for an average home owner and I have been rocking a set for the past 5 years without issues. These are very light and powerful compared to B&D brand and can do 90% of the tasks that a 18V Ryobi can do, but Ryobi also costs much more for a comparable set. And for prolonged power consuming occasional tasks, you are better off buying wired tools for much cheaper price. I highly recommend these for 90% of the tasks around the house. Its not available for this price around my area, otherwise would've grabbed a new set to add to my 5+ years old set.
