I think the various Metro iPhone deals should be merged because a lot of the questions are being asked in the different threads and they're mostly relevant to all of them.

iPhone 12, 64gb, "Free" with port in and plan of $75 = $75

iPhone 13, 128gb, $49.99 with port in and plan of $75 = $125

iPhone 14, 128gb, $99.99 with port in and plan of $75 = $175

If you have a Visible line you can use a referral to get $20 off the $25 plan = $5 for the line and then you can port that into Metro.

Additional lines on Metro are $35 so add that to the cost of the phone above for the cost of additional lines. So additional iPhone 12 would be $35.

Various experiences on the success of adding lines to your Metro account, though. Some go through hell just trying to add one. Others can add three or four more.

Unlock does supposedly take a year now, and I don't think anyone can confirm yet that it will actually unlock if you get the plan/phone for the first month and then let your plan/account just die (because you don't set up auto-bill to renew after the first month unless you really want to) - but I don't think there's any reason to suspect it won't unlock.

That's the crux of it. Again, there are already a few posts existing, especially for the iPhone 12 deal, so your questions have been likely already been answered if you want to search those threads.

I'd just get the iPhone 13 for $125 (similar deal from Metro as well). The phones are nearly identical, with the same processor.

Trade in values are also very similar, with Apple offering $50 more for this (and it costing $50 more)

Would it be possible to get this phone, use it on Metro for a month or so then use it on another T-Mobile MNVO (mint or us mobile)?
Metro only.

Don't know if you've been to these countries. Most people in poor countries buy SIM cards from vendors off the streets, not from official stores which are sporadically spread out through a city. It makes sense for them because eSIM only devices are very rare in those countries. Unless you buy a travel eSIM before you go, better to bring a pSIM device if traveling overseas, especially to developing countries.

There's a reason why non-US iPhones still have a pSIM slot.
I've been to Vietnam and Thailand many times. You can get service immediately as soon as you get off the plane and sign up for eSim service with DTAC at Bangkok or Viettel at Saigon right in the airport. But I don't usually do that because there's a markup, anything at the airport is a ripoff.

So, I resort to Airalo, buying it online and set it up with QR code before I land. As soon as I land, I turn on my phone and use it for a few days until I ran out of data then I walk into a real local shop and sign up for esim.

Exactly why I get SIM cards off the street. Cheaper than airport, cheaper than travel eSIM that you can buy before you go. I'm saying, don't trivialize having a pSIM slot, and clearly Apple thinks it's important also and only eliminated pSIM in the US. Let's say you really want to share your SIM with a friend or you need to use it on a different device (I bring multiple devices when I travel), having that pSIM slot is super handy.

It's funny that clearly Apple CAN design an iPhone 16 with a pSIM slot, but they chose not to for the US. It's a d**k move IMO.

Whats the best/cheapest way to get a brand new number so that I can port it for this deal? Would mint's 7 day prepaid trial sim card for like $2 work? Thanks.

Can anyone confirm if these phones would work with a t mobile sim right out the box? The way I remember these smaller subsidiary companies phones worked is they would work with the real "big name" company sims right out the box too. I remember a long time back I bought a cricket phone on an online deal, phone was locked. Cricket is owned by AT$T the same metro here is with T mobile, and I was able to use a AT$T sim on it.

Does not work as this uses eSIM. Locked to metro only.

Why is the total $429 full price during checkout? I put in my phone number to be ported and selected the right plan... I got all the way to the payment page and the price never went down to the $99 price.

Edit: It's because I was trying to do it with Google Voice....

I purchased an iPhone 13 yesterday, and it's scheduled for delivery on Monday. I'm considering activating that phone, adding another line to that account, and purchasing the iPhone 14 with the cheapest Metro plan. Not sure if this strategy still works, but I successfully did something similar with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 deal a few months ago.

Yea whatever floats your boat. I was responding to the other guy saying esim isn't widely supported which is clearly false. Even 3rd world countrie like Nigeria and Vietnam support esim.

FYI: the iPhone 14 is no longer advertised on the deals page. You have to search for it by clicking on "phones" then "5G phones".

It still works I just ported a Visible number into Metro within the last couple of days. I initiated the port and activated the Metro phone while it was still en route with UPS, then my Visible number was good to go with Metro when I unboxed and turned it on and did the setup. And FML I ordered the iPhone 13 for $99, 5 days ago, before Metro dropped the price and added the 14 for $99. Oh well.
What's the advantage of activating once it's shipped rather than waiting for it to arrive first? Even if ordering multiple, I imagine a slower velocity may help avoid getting blocked?
