For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.
Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.
I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

This isn't true. Cashapp Tax, which used to be Credit Karma, is free for federal and state, including filing.
That is good to know but only one covers one of my points and all the other downsides that I mention still hold for me. All the other downsides of web based service hold true and I'm sure Cashapp also has some other financial interest in getting you to sign up. They are owned by Block and they like their money

Does the deluxe+state allow you to view the state pdf/form so you can e-file state by yourself? I see state efile is an additional $19.99 fee, is that correct?
You can print and create PDF. If you state accepts PDFs you can create and send them one. Usually just do mine m by mail wi but will check if my state does that. What state are you in the has it?

is hr block premium a pretty seameless transition if you are coming from turbo tax premier?

I normally get premium in $25-30 range. Holding out.
Do you really need Premium? They try to upsell with the marketing and Deluxe handles all the same forms as Premium. I have fairly complicated return with multiple self employment income streams business income, Mutiple W2, and just about nay kind of investment, and retirement account you can imagine and Deluxe does it all with plenty of guidance.

Investment properties with easy functionality? Can deluxe do that? I don't want to run numbers and inputted on the forms manually. Rather pay the extra $10 or whatever.

As several have mentioned, it's not as smooth (aka 'free') filling your state return as it is the federal. That's never bothered me though as my state return amount is only a couple hundred $, so I just print a copy of the completed state filling and submit by mail for the price of a stamp and slightly longer wait on the deposit.

Though some states do have regulations that may make it free or cheap enough for you to want to efile that return.

I made the switch from TT to H&R last year and it was seamless. H&R read my 22 TT return and loaded everything needed. I have a fairly complex return given that I have retirement income, capital gains, IR distributions, Amazon and eBay 1099Ks, amongst other things. Was a bit worried about the switch, but no problems. The complex forms for federal filing is a breeze with free efiling. And I simply print out my state (NC) forms and mail those in as they are only a few pages

Yes. I use Fidelity and seamless 1099B import, saves me time with washsales.

Oh, would love to get that Excel model!
Protip: just do your taxes one year, then go back and build the Excel around how it all works. It's not too hard, the Excel part is entry-level, but the tax code and all of its interrelations are pretty wonky. But at the very least, you can do some tiered "if/then" statements that point to the current year's tax brackets, another section to do your deductions, etc.

I use it as a quick reference when doing my taxes, it cuts the time down by 80%, easily. I key in all my W-2 and 1099 stuff on one sheet, plus all other major items. It's usually pretty accurate unless you have AMT or other weird things that affect your deductions, EITC, child credit, etc

I assume you are talking about rental income and expenses that goes on Schedule E by way of a 1099K. It does do the income and expenses but I did not see anywhere to import the 1009K when looking in my last years software but might be missing something. It may also not have auto import for that. That being said it is only a few boxes and maybe minutes work but could be some work if you have multiples Screenshots attached.
