For those of you waiting on a better deal, be aware that the regular price has gone up from last year (49.99 last year vs 59.99 this year per my notes), so the same price may not happen this year. It might be a few dollars higher. I'm tired of waiting so I am getting it now.

Newegg has had a number of gift card deals in the past few months (example https://slickdeals.net/f/17897070-10-newegg-gift-card-email-delivery-5-via-newegg). I got two of them, totaling two $10 gift cards at $5 a piece. So I spent $10 on the gift cards, plus the $2.49 left over after the code, for a total of $12.49 net in my cost for the software.

I too, am waiting… The price will get lower as the month goes on and into February.

I have no idea how this made front page… This price is mediocre at best…

Once it gets to $15 and below then it may be a slick deal but right now it's just Meh.

OLT allows me to efile federal for free, and efile state for only $10. CashApp is free to efile for both federal and state.
You aren't at the whims of the online service going out of business or offline and losing your data. You can save all your tax returns to pdf files and print them out.
H&R Block and TurboTax charge more for state efile on top of your purchase price of the product.

What surprises me is how many of you want to get a refund. If I get a refund it means that I screwed up in my withholding and planning. You should aim to OWE as much as you can without having to pay a penalty. If you can't save and budget properly to pay what you owe, then at least aim for a net zero return. Why give the government an interest free loan each year in the form of excess payments?
Not saying it's people on SD but in general the majority of the US population tends to think getting a rebate is free money. They don't understand it was already their money.

I used to have Turbotax installed into 2 computers Mac and Windows. Would H&R allows to do the same with the software purchase? Do they require account like TurboTax? Thanks
With H&R you buy submission codes so you can have the software on as many computers as you want, but use a unique purchased code for each file.

FYI after being stubborn for years I finally made the switch from turbotax to freetaxusa. For some reason I was concerned about the import of a turbotax file, but I shouldn't have been. You import a PDF of your prior years tax return, and it does the rest. The online software is no easier or harder than turbotax/hr block. It's completely free, but is $15 for me to efile state. Would be free state if I don't want to efile. So $15 total. TurboTax was $35 (when found at the cheapest) + $15 to efile state.

Make the switch if you haven't already

are there ever deals on multistate? need to file in 2
I've had to do 2 states a few times. I never found a deal for multistate, so I just bought 2 of the deals. Still have to mail it in ($$ to state e-file), but I was able to load both state SW programs on one laptop.
First year I actually called H&R Block to ask and they walked me thru it. It's just using 2 codes, was super easy.

There are multiple free options that do this: Cash App is free federal and state. FreeTaxUSA and OLT are free federal with $10-15 state. No limits on which forms are available and no extra charges for them.
hm, maybe. i might need 2 check. so far whenever i was checking any 'free' tax preparation SW it didn't cover what I needed which this 'deluxe' version did.

Huh? Taxes owed are NOT based on how you file.

IMO, if you're frustrated by the US Tax code and how complicated it is you're ethically required to pirate this if you can.

H&R Block and Intuit (along w the mega rich having lobbyists angle for niche carve out that literally only benefit them) are the main reasons thing are so screwed up. The fact that we're still filing in the nearly identical way as was done 50+ years ago is bonkers. No other first world nation, aside from our hat/Canada does things this way.

Yes, this year filing for taxes half of America or approximately 300 million of America can file for taxes via the IRS if their tax return is simple tax return; so that will save many Americans from having to pay for H&R Block Tax Preparation software, and it can be all done online if one is eligible just go through the online IRS Tax Questionnaire and if you tax return is indeed a simple ordinary tax return one might just save one the cost of having to purchase any kind of tax preparation software as that is a major cost savings advantage to the dismay of the tax software publisher's and the celebration of the tax consumer's who have been seeking and finally getting the long-awaited relief from this annual tax ritual tax preparation expense; as its been long overdue and badly needed alternative, hopefully next year for 2025 tax season it will be all of America that will be eligible for free tax filing for simple filing federal tax returns; that is quite literally at least $18 to 28 billion dollars saved on behalf of the American tax payer and its about time.
Yes...
...and if the IRS is going to get Billion$$$$ of dollars for upgrades, agents, etc...you think that they could throw a few billion into a standardized software to allow a larger majority to just file for free...

But the H&R Block/TaxCut/TurboTax, etc... lobbyists who pay off our Congressional critters, with campaign donations, will ensure that never happens and they stay in business.

The same goes for our overall tax laws. The laws will never change to make it easier, otherwise, there will no longer be the need for a LOT of Tax Attorney's in this country. That self-licking ice cream industry will make sure tax laws stay difficult to do...to keep themselves in business. Oh, and half the congress critters are lawyers anyway! They will protect their breed.

I don't know if this was the cheapest price for deluxe with state but close enough that I'm getting it
I've seen it drop to $19.99 last year, but that's LATE in the filing season (~into March). I like to get started earlier, so I haven't been THAT much of a cheapskate and just paid the $22.49 last year. 🤣

I agree, this product works well. I'd use it while you can this year. Pretty much guarantee the incoming administration will find a way to shut this site down and possibly put the owners in prison for even offering such a free service.

Hopefully the tax preparation software industry will get the message and bring down the price of the tax preparation software packages back down to earth or at least throw in much more tax preparation useful and helpful advice that might be considered value added such as in artificial intelligence tax based advice to explain the more complex tax preparation education concepts behind the underlying tax theory in practice

So will this drop to sub $20 in Feb or what. Maybe that's the new norm with inflation…
