I wouldn't stay here. I've worked here for 6 years so I know. The property itself pales in comparison to other properties on Kaanapali(Sheraton, Westin, etc). The pools are subpar and the restaurant isn't very good and overpriced. The rooms were recently renovated so they could be nice but Royal Lahaina itself is far away from the kaanapali strip and the nearest mall, Whalers village. You're gonna have to either take a shuttle or walk 30 minutes to get there.

Go to the Royal Lahaina it's beautiful. I'm a flight attendant and this is once of my favorite layovers.

We've stayed there and it's the only place my family will ever consider going back to! There is NOTHING I can find that is as amazing as the ocean front cabanas! We don't care about the pool, it's steps from a picture perfect beach (which is why you go to Hawaii, no?). Would I ever stay in the tower, absolutely not. But, if you could recommend another hotel/property that has 'reasonably' priced ocean front rooms I'm all ears…

If you want to be somewhat isolated from the crowds, risk mediocre or overpriced food, and need to walk long distance/take a Lyft to get around, you might as well AirBNB it, and for that matter, just go to the big island and pay way less for more private space.

Did my honeymoon in Hawaii and I'd bet we didnt crack $1549 in lodging fees for 9 days (5 days Big Island, 3 days Kauai, 1 day in Honolulu). All of which had kitchen space, etc.

edit: I was wrong, $1555.94 total in 10 days. Admittedly, in 2019, so add 20% for inflation since.
Yikes….. I can only imagine the accommodations for that price in 2019. 🤮

I stayed here for my anniversary. Wasn't bad but not super fancy. If you're going to Hawaii I don't think a hotel is that important because you're probably doing other stuff.

Exactly (see post above). nod I actually bit on this deal… just happened to have conference coming up at one of the nicer resorts, but even WITH the conference rate it was >$700/night with fees and taxes. vomit

Decided to go with this cheaper option. When not at the conference, I'll be at the beach anyway. Like all slickdeals, it may be good for some and not for others… It happened to be good for me, so thanks OP and reps x4!! woot

I'm able to add two of my kids for an extra $200 on the doubles room but the terms indicate "Inclusions valid for two guests". Does that mean the wife and I get the breakfast buffet and the kids are on their own? Sucks for them!

Far away from the strip and mall!? My kind of place. Hawaii is too beautiful to spend time at a freakin' mall.

Nooo, it's not too far. Maybe the hotel isn't like Sheraton or Westin, but the price is very different. Expect to pay 6 to 7k at those locations. This is a great location and a good deal. There is a beautiful established
walking path that can easily take you up and down the coastline. Just the deal that I've been searching for.

You are definitely entitled to your opinion but I completely disagree with everything you said. Kihei is far inferior to Kaanapali. All the condos are rundown, far from the beach, and downtown Kihei is kind of shabby as well. The beaches are also far worse and the waves are way rougher. I'm not saying that Kihei is horrible but it isn't nearly as nice as Kaanapali.

My Buddy worked a hotel in Vegas. Was a fantastic place but he and a number of the staff would tell folks not to stay there as it was "terrible" followed by some made up horrific tale. The reasoning was simple, they were always busy and figured if they could dissuade some folks from coming there, it would make their work a bit easier. 😂

*Road to Hana*: if you feel iffy the day of, I would not recommend to do it. The road is extremely winding and narrow. Many sections of the road, especially the bridges are just for one vehicle at a time. It's minimum 3 1/2 hours from this hotel to Hana.

It's not Maui if you don't take the time to visit Hana making stops along the way. It's a full day trip, but what else are you going to do? Sit by a pool or stare at the ocean every day?
