Placed an order. Seems like a good price for a Bosh Level and Tripod bundle.

Is one of these any better than the cheap ones of Amazon? Especially if it's just for a bit of diy and hanging pictures.

Bosch is known as a manufacturer of professional tools.

I have a whole tool cabinet full of Bosch tools, so you might call me a fanboy. However, last month when I needed to purchase a laser level, I went with the Kobalt laser level that was twice the distance of the Bosch and about $20 cheaper. While I was looking at the Bosch level I thought I would look at the tripod that was on sale. One of my hobbies is photography, and I've gone through lots of tripods. This thing struck me as nothing but a cheap piece of junk. Very flimsy, not very tall, just not what I was expecting from Bosch. I realize that a camera weighs a lot more than a laser level, but for $60 I was expecting a lot more. Especially from Bosch.

I am also a fan of Bosch tools. I have many of them. Nothing breaks. All the batteries, even the 8 year old ones, still work well. I am pretty sure there are better tripods on the market, but for a DIYer like me, this one seemed fine. Especially as a gift. The maximum load capacity is 2.2 pounds. So it was not designed for cameras or other devices, just laser levels.

5/16 inch accuracy at 30 feet? That's a pretty big margin for error. Defeats the purpose of a laser level. Might as well save yourself some money and use a tape measure and chalk line and likely get the same or better accuracy.

Red version is 5/16 inch, green version is 1/4 inch. Even still, 1/4 inch variance is substantial if you're doing something like a chair rail, wainscoting, tile, etc.

Look for warranties on things like this. It's not a power tool, it's a sensitive device that can break easily if dropped. And if you think any of the 'big' tool companies expensive offerings are any better than Chinese brands, I hate to break it to you, but the biggest difference is battery compatability. It breaks, you're likely buying another one. Do yourself a favor and look for a ~100ish offering from zon that has lines/dots that fit your needs. I've used several huepar that have worked well for me, with plenty leftover for an extra battery/tripod if you expect to use it a lot. A hard case is a big plus for things like this.

Deal is over. I bought it, but I found out it doesn't take in "normal" AA batteries. None of my eneloops, ladda, duracell, energizers, amazonbasics, etc would power it on.

It has to be specifically LR6 AA batteries. I read the reviews after buying and someone noted the same thing with manufacturer confirming it.

Dealbreaker for me as I don't want to buy these special batteries that only this laser level would use.

FWIW, LR6 is just another designation for a your average alkaline AA battery.

Interestingly I just tried the batteries it came with and it still doesn't turn on. So it's possible I got a dud as all the batteries I tried have 1.2v-16v. Sale is over for me, so seems my choices may be to go through warranty process or just return it.

I can confirm that my level turns on with both the included batteries and the Costco Kirkland AA batteries. Any regular AA batteries should work.
