Yeah... Some people still have landlines (whole house phones). Ive never done video calls, or feel the need to...btw how do you do a video call to utility companies, or anybody else for that matter that isn't a friend??

Can anyone who understands how this works explain, can I plug this system into my modems phone plug and not have to pay any additional fee?

It works over your home Internet. You can plug it in into your home's wiring to give a dial tone (RJ9, the small phone cable), but you will need Internet (RJ45 Ethernet) connected to the Ooma.

Then what is the "pay only taxes and fees" part if there it's getting service from my modem?

With home Internet/TV/Phone they charge you for a home landline (may be bundled into the price). With this you pay only taxes and fees (911 etc)

So if I already have and operate a landline on my home Internet then using this won't add any fees, correct?

depending on your area there is a small regulatory fee usually $3-5/mo.

You would want to check your current bill, hopefully it's split out. For example Optimum around my area might charge $20/month.
Then you set up Ooma, then optionally port your current home/business number (one time fee) to Ooma to keep your phone number (if you want). Then you would pay taxes + fees only (varies locally, usually like $5/month), Ooma does not charge a fee unless you upgrade to Ooma Premium subscription, or make international calls.

At this point, I'd go with US Mobile's Home Phone (via cellular) offering for $10/mo when you pay annually. I'm paying Ooma $10/mo ($16ish total/mo) for their premium spam filter (on max) for my 96yo grandma's landline and I don't think it does much for spam. I'm about ready to move her over to US Mobile's offering, plus if she falls and ends up in hospital or in a nursing home, easy to move it with her home phone, just needs power.

I used this 15 years before. Now it doesn't make any sense for me to spend money on this. May be useful for elderly people who don't know how to use a mobile smartphones.

I semi-agree. We're trying to find somewhere for our Google Voice lines to go to. I checked into Ooma and after taxes it would be over 8 bucks a month - and those continue to increase. That along with the fact that it's dependent on an internet connection doesn't make sense when we can port both numbers to a USMobile pool for 18 bucks a month taxes included. Still thinking about Ooma though with this deal.

EDIT: Ooma is out. Thought they had texting on their phone app but they don't.
