Website experience is so bad with all of the ads. I'll just wait for it in the mail. Last time I go to Costcosinsider

How do these guys always manage to make a worse experience for browsing an album of images? Before you had to click the random text on the page which would sometimes load the images, now you have to click "next" 20 times because they don't even show all images on one page anymore. I think Costco Insider should just be banned...

The people praising Costco grocery prices must not have aldi or lidl around. They are far lower in price. Costco has become militant and annoying getting harassed in line by people trying to solicit executive memberships, the stupid scanning in to get in when you don't even have to have a membership (a la gift card or buy alcohol or prescriptions), the ridiculous gas lines that are barely cheaper than others (news came out they jacked up gas prices for more profits of course) The only reason I have membership is to buy thousands of the 27 gallon storage per year. If they didn't have those for cheap, the membership would be worthless in my area with lidl and aldi.

This may just be unique to you and your household. Not everyone agrees, evidenced by Costco record profits. Maybe you're not happy you can't take as much advantage of the store as so many others can.

I have an Aldi and I've shopped there a few times. Sure a few things might be cheaper but overall Costco products are still cheaper and actually has the everyday products I use. I also don't think you've properly done the math on the price comparison with Costco. I have done the math and Costco almost always wins on a per unit level. The packaging at Aldi is clearly a victim of shrinkflation and you need to look at price per ounce or unit. As for the gas prices it's still one of the cheapest stations where I live and with the extra 5% it's still a bargain. In fact, they just increased the gas rebate to 5% from 4% this year. However, I usually fill up at Sam's Club because they are even cheaper than Costco and also have a 5% discount. As long as you are smart about what you buy at Costco you can save a lot of money. Just don't fall for all their samples peddling higher priced items and focus on the bulk stuff and you'll make the membership more than pay for itself. Also, Costco's return policy and price adjustment policies can't be beat. I think I get around $300 a year combined with my Costco rebate and Costco Visa which more than makes up for the cost of the Executive membership even after the slight $10 increase this year.

I joined Costco because they had a good price on a TV, my friends really like Costco, and the membership worked out to be about $20 with the discounts. Now, I keep trying to find any reasons drive an extra twenty minutes to go there. So far the inexpensive cooked hot chicken and the cheap huge pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving are the only real bargains I have found so far. I typically make my list of local deals online and then go to the close by stores for those items. Costco doesn't tell me any prices to compare online, they don't give me prices in their ads, they don't even tell me the price of gas unless I sit in line for the pump (no sign). The gas price is usually the same as a station a block from my house and the couple of times I wandered around the store the prices appear to be a little higher than sale prices at the other discount stores I usually visit. I am not willing to take my shopping list from other stores and wander all over Costco just to compare prices or stand there in the store to just look up prices on line at the other stores. My friends tell me Costco sells things like name brand paper towels for not much more than store brands towels at discount stores but the store brands work fine for me and I don't have to buy a lifetime supply (pallet full) at a time. Sure I can probably save hundreds of dollars on some kind of furniture but I don't know how much it originally costs or why I would need it in the first place. A friend did say check on a car battery prices but I ended up getting a better deal at Walmart and they had a full three warranty like Costco HAD until they changed it to pro rated. Costco also doesn't accept my Visa card that gives me cash back.

Am I missing something? Can someone tell me how to compare Costco prices or find good deals on basic items?
You can find the Costco gas prices on their website -go to locations and find your store. Also, Instacart or SameDay Costco will give you an idea of in-store pricing . In my area, the Instacart prices are for the most part 9% more than in-store prices. As for Visa, never heard of that??

Its frustrating to see them persist with the high MERV count air filters this years as well. The older ones they sold were in the goldilocks zone.
I don't get the obsession with high MERV counts either. The filter is there for your ac unit to keep running, not the air in your house to be clean. You need an actual air purifier for that.

An HVAC guy told me, ac compressors don't get the flu or allergy problems.

Huge 225 fl oz bottle of ECOS Ultra liquid laundry detergent on sale for $12.79. I'm a fan of this brand so I grabbed one and it'll easily last a year in my house.

Costco actually exclusively accepts Visa cards. You must be confusing it with a Mastercard, which they don't accept.

I agree that Costco is not great for groceries. But a few things I've found are worth it:

Seltzer
Pet food
OTC store-brand medicine (lactaid, allergy meds)
Eggs
Protein bars/breakfast bars
Storage stuff (totes, shelves)
Kirkland signature trash bags
And occasionally sales on cleaning products such as laundry detergent/dish detergent are much better than waiting for a sale at Target, for example.

Yeah, that's about all I buy there. Their food court, alcohol, and pharmacy don't require a membership so I'm not counting those.

Edit: Food court evidently now requires the membership and alcohol sales requiring a membership depends on the state you're in.

Bachan sauce is surprisingly good sauce to marinate meat, dip sushi or just add into a salad.

I'm not sure about alcohol or pharmacy but the food court does now require a membership at most locations.

For me getting any tires at Costco is still the play. I just love getting my tires rotated for free while I shop. The time and hassle saved is worth it for me.

They are getting bad. Downgraded optical products and car battery warranties are prorated. They removed their chocolate chips replaced with nestle. Instead of raising prices they lower product.

I find myself cringing whenever I read these sales posts, after realizing that I might as well have set my membership money on fire. I don't understand. They used to have good stuff on sale. Cool asian food with actual meat, and actual meat, bacon, hell even seafood or fruit or vegetables.. Now it's Cup O Noodles. Got damned crap noodles that you find at the dollar store. You cheap ass MFers... What a waste of a store.
Oh, and $60 off for 4 sets of tires that cost $1000. Amazing... Those jagoffs.
Ignore the sale stuff and focus on what you buy and determine if the value is there
