No need to cancel. Just make sure to have autopay turned off in your account settings. the line will cancel on its own after 30 days and device will unlock on day 60. If phone activated with physical sim card then make sure to not remove it from the phone for any reason from the time you activated it until it unlocks and the unlock will happen without a hiccup.

ETA, IMEI compatibility check (HoFo): TMobile yes, ATT no, Cricket no, Visible no, VZW yes.
IMEI checks are not reliable and typically exclude more models than they should. This one should be compatible with all networks.
- TMo and MVNOs don't care, they pretty much accept any unlocked phone
- Verizon and MVNOs, you might need to activate a SIM first with a "compatible" phone then move the SIM over. StraightTalk is a Verizon owned brand after all.
- AT&T and MVNOs are the trickiest. Some carrier phones work right off the bat like my Total Wireless A35 5G that just unlocked last week. Some phones you might need to manually configure the APN via the MyTechSuite app

But all in all, it'll work everywhere, but might need some workarounds for VZ and T networks.

Are the OS updates of the A16 more important than the 8GB Ram of the Moto? Trying to decide between the two and honestly don't know enough about newer phones to know what to value in the comparison.
Not just the updates but the Samsung A series have OLED screens which are much better than the IPS ones on the Motos. You use the screen 100% of the time, but the extra RAM doesn't come into play under many use cases. If you're running basic apps like WhatsApp, Maps, etc, it doesn't matter at all. A16 doesn't have a headphone jack though.

Total by Verizon has the Samsung A35 for free with plan. Nice jump up from the Power, Edge, A15, A16. Also has IPX7 water proof rating (1 meter deep for 30 minutes), 128GB/6GB RAM, very good camera, and Samsung's 4 years of OS and 5 years security.

Don't you have to take a selfie for total, or send your SSN? One of those Verizon carriers have a strange rule

They are both good for the price. You will probably only have either phone for 2 years or less.

In 2024, I got 2 Moto G Power 2024 phones for $75 but didn't activate it. If I activate it, then if buy 2 new Moto G Power 2024 phones would the price be $45 since I will have 4 lines?

Attached is a picture of what the breakdown would be when adding lines 3 and 4

I have the A15 (almost identical to A16) and the Moto Power 5g 2024 and while the Moto is a bit snappier, I really like the AMOLED screen of the A15/A16 as it's much brighter and easier to see in sun. Bonus is the 4 OS updates and 5 years of security updates with Samsung. If you want a definite jump up, go for the A35 with Total at the same price with port in.

A reviewer from wired.com claimed the A35 was a bit more sluggish than the Moto G power (maybe because of OS or RAM) despite a better benchmark on the chip. Something to consider

who knows as it's always a YMMV. Reviews are solid. I do love the Amoled screens vs TFT on the Power. Edge has the Amoled and looks great. These budget phones have really moved up to mid tier.

Do these phones have all the bands that the unlocked version have or are we still dealing with carrier phones that are missing bands from some companies?
