It takes some configuring, but I've had good experiences with using Google Family to manage my kids devices.
1. Go to the web to find the current minutes, messages, data, and days remaining on your permanent phone.
2. Activate your "donor" phone on the same account.
3. Go to the web to find the current minutes, messages, data, and days remaining on your new, donor phone.
4. Go to support.tracfone.com and scroll down to and click "Chat with Support".
5. Populate the message template below with details of your donor phone and permanent phone and share with the CSR.

Instructions intended as a simplified way of preventing people from trying to use the sim in another device while active and possibly botching the auto unlock process. Hope that clears it up.

Can one leave Phone #1 with service for 61 days, use the Referral points, then transfer the line and balance to Phone #2?

Oh yeah that's right. 🤦 Guess my brain was glitching and mentally assuming there was a big chunk from tax bumping up the total. Thanks for laying that out for me!

This is my experience, I activated 1st phone, and no need to text UNLOCK to 611611, this is not an essential step, just an infomational purpose, immediately after activation, start 2nd phone activation by transfer 1st phone line into 2nd phone, and you get 2 years of service in 2nd phone, then wait for 60 days, both of your phones will be unlocked.
Wait 48 hours after phone #1 is activated to transfer number and balance to phone #2 not 48 hours after it is unlocked. Texting unlock to 611611 is to have the exact date for the unlock and to verify there was no hiccup in the registration of the device IMEI and SIM card with the TracFone service which is what the 60 day unlock timer is based on. Yes you can activate the phone and instantly transfer the balance and # immediately without sending the text. Then forget what the unlock date was or calculate it wrong and add unneeded stress or the device did not register properly and now you're stuck with a brick. Follow the simplified instructions and you will have smooth sailing.
