Yes. Thanks, Captain Obvious. I don't see it listed anywhere, but if it is, please enlighten me.

OK, I just got home a few minutes ago and here's an update:

Went to the Rancho Cucamonga, CA store first. Guy asked me a couple of questions when I asked him if they have the 25+ in stock (he didn't answer me right away), he wanted to know if I was upgrading a line or trading in and when I said I was trading in, he tells me "we're out of stock". Hmm, right... He claims he'll contact me if they get any in stock (I doubt he'll do that, he was just trying to get rid of me).

Then, on to the Ontario store in Ontario Mills - where I got the base 25 a couple of days ago. Same thing, guy asks me if I'm upgrading or trading - seeing a pattern here? I wasn't gonna lie (maybe I should have) and he went to the back room and came back out - nope, we are out of stock. Surrrrreee...

OK, I'm a glutton for punishment, so I went on to the Fontana store, three guys sitting around doing absolutely nothing when I walked in. Went to the first guy who called me, and this one insisted that he had to have my ID to tell me if they have the phone in stock. Right, so more shenanigans start. First he asked me if I'm upgrading or trading, I tell him I'm trading in a phone (I didn't tell him it was an S25). He looks at his screen more, seemed like he didn't react much when I told him about the trade in, then he asked me "what color do you want?" I asked "what colors do you have?" (Why would he ask that if he didn't have any, hmmm?) He hesitates and says tentatively - black, and blue. I said blue is fine, if you have it, if not, black is good too. Then he says, "you just got an S25" (now I knew, this is the real reason why he insisted on ID and looking up my account, so he could arbitrarily deny the trade in) and "are you trading that in?" I said yes - and he didn't say "I can't do that" or anything else at all. Goes to the back room, comes back empty handed, shrugs his shoulders and says "we're out of those, we have the S25 but no Plus or Ultras".

Now, I'm not stupid, it's quite obvious that he's lying and changed his mind about giving me one for whatever reasons. I would rather him just be honest (LOL, right?) and tell me up front "I'm not allowed to do that" or something similar (even though, as we all know, that isn't true either). Instead, he led me on and acted like he was going to get one for me and shattered my hopes. I was pissed, to say the least. Felt like calling him a liar and a few other choice things but didn't. I smiled, stayed pleasant and controlled myself but I wasn't happy at all after driving around all day to come up empty handed at the end.

For anyone else thinking about trying to get a trade in done in store, good luck. I think these guys are lying through their teeth and will stonewall and gaslight you. I don't know if something came down from HQ to shut down in-store trade-ins or what, but it's infuriating when they knowingly lie to customers. I may try one more time tomorrow at the last store in the area before giving up and either doing it online or just keeping the S25 and forgetting about upgrades. Interestingly, not one rep at any of the stores said I couldn't trade in the S25 for a Plus model. It was just "we don't have any, and don't know when we'll get more".

I hope my experience will help other SD'ers that are considering the in-store option. Maybe save yourself a lot of aggravation and just go online. Kudos to those that got lucky in the store and didn't have any problems doing this. I'm open to suggestions from others if you know of a way to get it done in store, but as we all know, the window of opportunity is closing soon on this deal.
Dang your experience is infuriating. I PMed you what worked for me.

I hate this. The worst part is that they make us feel like criminals for just trying to partake in a deal that's spelled out clear as day online

For my part I wrote out a long review complaining about how the promo is the promo and the reps should allow for it on Google Maps

You can consider doing the same

I don't want to go online, and their in store thing should allow for it all

I'm not the sort to ever demand to speak to a manager, but if this happened to me, I would and I'd report it up the chain in whatever way possible

It's a simple deal. If you don't like it, it's not your problem

I had same experience with guy who insisted my phone had to be unlocked before trade in (wrote about it previously in this thread) and told him it didn't. I held my ground and he let me go. Granted, that was last weekend. Who knows how high and mighty they've gotten by now

And yes, sounds entitled. But the terms are the terms. Just sell the damn phones as you're supposed to already

It appears that the trade-in price has been lowered by $25 for each model.
S25 $1,088
S25+ $1,125
S25U $1,297

Trade-In Apple Gift Card or Best Buy Gift Card? Then you do not have to keep the lines.

Just skip doing any in-store upgrades if you live in SoCal, unless you're adding a line or doing an initial upgrade. I've experienced similar things during my visits in other locations around me.

Save time and aggravation by upgrading online already. All the gas/time wasted driving around just adds up. I'm done with the stores and just upgraded my s25 to s25+ online to save the headache and all games the agents play.

I don't believe they get commissions for upgrading, only just opening new lines. Therefore, they're not incentivized to deplete their inventory for upgrades when you already have any s25 model. I think most, if not all, SoCal stores are rationing their supposed "limited inventory" of phones exclusively for potentially new customers opening new lines, or only the initial upgrade on a line. Most agents will look and dig into your account history, before letting you know if they "have" any phones in stock. If you add a new line, they'll magically have it in-stock, but if you're upgrading, SOL they don't have anything.

Had an agent say they even had to order their upgrade online for their own personal phone. They did offer to order it online and have it shipped though, but you'd still have to do the Assurant mail-in process.

I haven't been able to do a trade in since last night, not logged in. Has anyone tried since then, online?
