These are really good sounding speakers with clean highs and deep lows. However, I stopped buying Klipsch after having 2 sets of these have electronics failure after less than 2 years. That was back when there were 150-200 bucks. Maybe they've improved the quality? I had the second set on UPS after having the first on just a surge protector, but that made no difference. The electronics built into the sub just died without warning.
Now I just use a good set of headphones for my desktop. My very old creative labs 2.1 set still functions after maybe 20 years if I need to listen without phones.

What kind of problems did you have, I've seen a ton of fixes and mods for common problems with these online.

Having said that, I much prefer the older sets (with the round 6-pin DIN style connector) they were 240W as opposed to these newer ones at 200W, but the only way you're finding those is used and the aforementioned DIN plug has its own set of issues.

Exaggerated a lot. Deep lows? You get a 55Hz +15dB spike with the "bass knob" pointing straight up and +20dB at full clockwise rotation. It tanks under 35Hz. Adjusted for a more flat response, they taper off around 45Hz. Nothing deep about it. Just a boomy mid-bass response. It's the sound a lot of people like though - a V-shaped response.

They're still good "value" "pc" speakers, but they really aren't anything great. They're better than most soundbars and compact speaker sets that people use though. I still like them for the nostalgia factor, since I purchased my original v.2-400 speakers in 2000, but that's because they were a huge step up from some computer Cambridge Soundworks cubes I used before them - not because they do anything really well.

Sub is a weak point. You can max it out and its honestly not very loud at all. Like, really. It sounds good. But if you expect any deep bass, you will be disappointed. I run mine with the knob on max to just get some output.

You make great points about this set, and I agree with your assessment. Simple physics puts some constraints on a set like this, but in this size range these are probably the best value out there. Compared to 99% of the computer speakers being sold today, a set of these really picks up the quality of sound your streaming and music deliver on a desktop/laptop platform. I currently have a pair of subwoofer-less JBLs on my office internet computer, and while they're nothing fancy or expensive, the sound quality is head and shoulders above the cheapies they replaced and is plenty good enough for me.

These are a nice compromise between low price and high performance, not home theater quality but perfectly fine and acoustically pleasing for a bedroom or office as a complement to your primary audio system. Not meant to rattle the windows, but good enough for most tastes.

Short video on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHKhSdJrIFw

And from the comments on that video, here's another (timestamped) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7...GR8&t=590s

There's also schematics out there for these and a lot of community help for them, hope those help!

For sure they're good value for new, compact speakers. They just don't play low, and are lacking in a lot of ways, but as a basic 3" main driver satellite WITH a separate tweeter, and 6.5" driver bass box, the 2.1 sets make a lot of people happy for the price, and smaller size.

I have three complete working sets of 5.1 Ultras, and a new-old-stock original v.2-400 for some "retro" pcs on individual Ikea Jerker desks, and new parts from Henry Koch sitting in boxes ready to repair and/or upgrade the amplifiers for better reliability. I've probably used and recommended/setup 30 various sets of promedias over the years for various reasons, so I don't hate them. They are what they are - a V-curve speaker system with some boom, on the cheap new. Something the masses like the sound of.

Bought this and can't recommend. very muffled, sounds like tweeters are not active, just for show? Both voices and music missing a ton of info, have to turn up volume to understand and then it's too loud for near field computer use.
