Or is the 14" pretty similar and worth the jump to not wait for the next deal? I'm coming from my Klipsch - Reference Series 12" 400W Powered Subwoofer - Black from a few years back, so I am excited to try a newer model's upgrade.

When these ship to you, make sure you inspect them right away. The first one that was shipped to me had some damage on the front lower corner. Just a small wrinkle, wasn't bad. I contacted Adorama and they credited me back $40 to live with it instead of getting another.
If your main expectation/preference is going low and rattling something, this will do that at a good price.
If it's more accurate/articulate/quality you're after, there are better options, it often comes at a price though.
Now whether that price is worth it is a whole other story, ultimately it's subjective.
Keep in mind this has a pretty big footprint, the 16 even bigger.
Placement plays a significant role on optimal performance imo.
