I posted a message on this laptop a few days back - I Ultimately returned this laptop. From my experience, the build quality is pretty good and battery life is great. The screen did look a little off to me for some reason and I couldn't figure out exactly what's off about it. Here are some of the outstanding issues it has, FYI:

1 – Power On. Sometimes it works with 1 press. Sometimes it works with 2 or 3 or 4 presses. Sometimes if I press it once, it will turn on right away. Sometimes I press it once and wait maybe 10 seconds it will eventually come on. Not sure what the problem is.

2 – Audio crackling noise while on battery power. You can google this and see other people with the same problem but no solutions. Some suggested installing drivers from 2019, which I don't want to do. The audio doesn't have random crackling noise while plugged in, but if I'm on battery power, the speakers, wired and wireless headphones will all have random crackling noises. It's because of the power savings on the Realtek driver and there's no way to disable that with the new Realtek control panel (according to Asus tech support). Maybe there will be a software update... eventually...

3 – External monitor via USB C / Thunderbolt – If I attach an external monitor via the Thunderbolt USB-C port, it won't get recognized. It gives a device error and won't recognize the monitor at all. The same monitor / cable works with my gaming laptop and also works with a friend's Macbook Pro. This seems to be an Asus issue as you can google it and find plenty of people having this problem. No solutions found, although the external monitor works with an Asus X13 from 2022 via the non-Thunderbolt USB C port.

4 - Asus proprietary power charging - I have an Anker 67W PD charger but the laptop sees it as a "slow" charger and won't charge fast. It recommends the 65W PD charger that came with the laptop which obnoxiously doesn't have folding power prongs. Seems like Asus pulled an Apple and want people to buy their proprietary charging bricks. Somebody mentioned it might've been my Anker charger but I'm going to guess no based on Asus's track record.

5 - I hate the keyboard - it's nice to type on but you can hardly see the keys under many conditions. You can't see the keys during the day or in a bright room with the backlights turned on. You can barely make out the keys at night with a light either with the backlight on or off. Apparently this is a common complaint on the Asus Vivobook series.

6 - Mine was silver but I read a lot of complaints about finger print magnet on the black version.

7 - Case is VERY difficult to open to upgrade - the center has a glued screw cover - WHY? - hard to get off without scratching the whole thing.

be aware walmart has better warranty since you could register it at asus website to get complimentary ADP, but bestbuy models are excluded for some reason.

Extremely low? Nope. It's a 14" laptop. People are so stupid regarding resolution. It is 60hz but it's a great display for $800 with the specs. Like, unbeatable.

I'm keeping an eye on the Lenovo Slim 7i Aura edition with 258v but that doesn't seem to come by within this price range. I need 15 or 16 inch laptop ans this is only a bummer for me due to the same reason.

I sniped a open-box non-OLED one for $200. Usual component upgrades. Couldnt be happier.

That is a completely different laptop...

That's an older i3 chip with 8gb RAM and a 2-in-1 design. This one is the latest Intel Lunar Lake chip with 32GB RAM.

Not relevant or comparable at all to this deal.

This, or keep $530 open box excellent best buy 226V 16GB RAM version? I just wanted a light, portable, long battery life laptop for office work and light coding. Already have a separate desktop for performance stuff.

This seems like 50% more cost for more RAM and marginally better processor? I sure wish had an open box deal...
Just do your work and see if the lack of ram is an issue. You do not need the extra ram for excel spreadsheets and emails, but the minute you add video or engineering workloads, you'll hit the limits.

I know there are a lot of people clowning on the folks saying the resolution is bad, but it's a legitimate concern. I had a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro back in college that had an actual 2K display (not the FHD ones that claim to be 2K). It was nice. I then bought a Yoga C930 with a FHD display. That display was garbage compared to the 2K one. Now, I don't want an FHD display anymore after stepping down from 2K. It was super noticeable. That being said, it's likely the C930 panel was just a low quality one. I'm sure this OLED on this machine is a better panel that the C930. But there is a reason why some of us don't want FHD.
For a change, I was able to spot this deal hours before Dr. Wajahat, which is an accomplishment Big Grin However, I decided not to buy due to the FHD resolution. I believe you are spot on with your intuition, because most mobile OLED subpixel layouts use the diamond/PENTILE layout which shares the green subpixel with neighboring subpixels, so the actual subpixel resolution is much less than a regular RGB/RGBW layout: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...and-hacks/ (this old, still relevant article shows a picture that when displayed on this subpixel layout shows a blank image, talk about high fidelity signal processing!). Still my experience with 3K OLED on 14.5" is life-alerting. I recently got a 2022 Samsung Book2 16" Pro x360 with FHD AMOLED and it was horrendous. I'm thinking at 14" this Vivobook won't be That bad, but for $800 you're still paying for the Lunar Lake premium. My use case is for a portable OLED Linux machine, so Snapdragon are Mac are out. I am personally waiting for a deal on: https://www.costco.com/msi-presti...09377.html but I'd like a 2-in-1 ideally, and this one is $1200. If you don't mind the last gen Meteor Lake Ultra and less RAM/SSD, Newegg is selling the same 2.1lb form factor for $800, $712 open box. Still too much for me personally, since I got my Lenovo Legion 7840hs+4060+3K 120Hz OLED for $800, and the same for HP Pavilion Plus without the 4060 for $400. Here's the Newegg link for $799(New)/$712(Open Box): https://www.newegg.com/msi-a1mg-0...6834156582
So yeah, the diamond OLED subpixel layout won't work if you're planning to do 100% scale as you'll see jagged single-pixel width letters. It must be 150%+ scale.

What do y'all use the touchscreen for that isn't better with a mouse or Wacom?
I just got the first touchscreen laptop. I thought I don't need that part, but I when I have no great mouse position the touchscreen is nice. I find I use it more than I thought.

This model does not come with a second HD port - just the SD port.

Wow, I just bought this from Amazon last week when posted on sale for $999, and I absolutely love this thing. It's the PC version of a M3 Macbook. Fast, cool, quiet, and long battery life. The screen looks beautiful. Music sounds great. I'm coming from a Surface Laptop Go 3 and there is nooo looking back. Beyond impressed and my only regret is not getting it for yet another $200 off Frown

How does this compared to this $668 deal? Less memory (here is 32 vs 16 on lower price one). But Ultra 155H seems to have better multi core performance and rendering. Me thinking better deal if you want to do light video editing, no?

$668 at WMT as well, ASUS Vivobook S Laptop: Ultra 7 155H, 15.6" OLED, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD

I think this is the one you're referring to:

I think so. The build is very plastic feeling and nobody is going to mistake it for a MacBook, but functionally it definitely will work fine and the battery life should be a bright spot. I own the 226v version that was on sale earlier but has the same general build (keyboard, screen, etc.) This more expensive model is definitely powerful enough to last a few years for productivity/school work. With 32gb and a current gen higher end processor it shouldn't have any trouble running CAD or similar software she would need.

Thanks for this, I would absolutely do a MacBook of some sort for her, but my understanding is windows is the way to go for an engineering student with the various programs they run.
