I'm hoping since this connects through usb-c it will be faster than every other card reader I have used. Never had a card reader or card anywhere close to speeds they claim.

Wouldn't it be better to pay just a tad more for a full port hub that's still pretty portable? Like this for $20

if your card isn't uhs-ii, then it will still transfer at normal speed. you'd only benefit from speed if you actually had a uhs-ii card.

In the same vein, I purchased this when Amazon had a super deal and used Velcro to attach the unit to my PC (has USB4). Terrific - has all the ports I need/super convenient and connections are solid.

Bingo, it doesnt matter much for these SD card readers, most of the SD cards even the "fast" ones arent all that fast. It wont matter just having the reader be USB3. Same applies to USB flash drives, it doesnt matter much if they are USB2 or USB 3 when the flashmemory are slower speeds. It only matters for SSD drives.
