You're not wrong for basic use but higher quality cables seem to play much nicer than cheap cables when getting eARC to negotiate properly between tv,receiver, device. HDR/Dolby Vision can be finicky as well with cheap cables.

eARC is particularly sensitive and it's worth the money if you've ever wasted time on inconsistent connections.
Never had a flaky cable huh? And yes all made in china but with varying levels of quality. Id trust a Milwaukee drill over a generic $20 drill off alibaba any day
I can echo how a "better" hdmi cable can make a huge difference.

I have two identical setups, one upstairs and one downstairs. HDMI fished through the wall behind each. Same TVs and same model appleTVs. Both setups have gigabit wired connections that provides 900up/down internet over fiber.

The one upstairs is a finicky connection and doesn't always play with good clarity. Like the tv has up sampling from 480p.

I've swapped the appleTVs and gone through all the settings to make sure they are exactly the same.

The difference was the hdmi cable. I cheated out on the upstairs setup and got an off brand HDMI. The downstairs has a much higher quality hdmi that I was lucky to get on sale.

Sale came back, I bought a second "fancy" hdmi and all the issues upstairs went away.

I threw away that off brand relabeled hdmi.

I honestly never realized till today that Anker makes HDMI cables. I mean it makes sense cause they do other types but just haven't ever seen them on Amazon till now.

It's nice that these are certified. In case anyone ends up asking, certified does occasionally matter — particularly for videogame consoles. Some audio receivers and soundbars won't recognize them as ultra high speed. There have been cases where a non-certified cable works, but the option to game at 120hz is greyed out when plugged into the receiver. The option would appear again when plugged directly into the TV. Then when the person tried a certified cable with the receiver, the option was available again. Even though that probably happens to almost no one, why risk it?

I miss the days where it didn't matter what HDMI cable you'd buy. If you have any kind of advanced display or equipment this sadly isn't the case. All the crappy handshaking that has to happen just for DRM is so annoying and fails all the time.

As far as these cables are concerned I've bought an Anker HDMI 2.1 6 ft cable and returned it and left a poor review because they didn't have the official branding and hologram that is required if they did indeed get it certified. I know it's likely just a payment thing on their part but the HDMI 2.1 certifications are very strict. And like I said these things are so finicky these days so I didn't want to chance it. Just FYI. There's actually very very few choices for officially licensed HDMI 2.1 cables for a decent price. It's basically Anker, Amazon Basics, Best Buy Essentials and Insignia for officially certified HDMI 2.1 cables that are < $50.

one cable out of over 30 cables i own.
The thing is yes they are all made in china and some of these cables are just rebranded with a different name on them. I am sure there is a cable out there 2x cheaper than ANKR and does the same thing.

You see the same thing on HDMI switches

You are really buying the name and the bs warranty they offer. You will chat with a chinese person to get that done , GL.

The cable is not braided, the cable uses a black sleeve and isnt even labeled. All you get is that ANKR label on the connector. Definitely leads me to believe they just use a good chinese supplier with their custom connector.

I personally would rather own slim cable hdmi 2.1

https://www.amazon.com/Thsucords-...9hdGY&th=1

spend 2 bucks more and get a better product just because of the cable , connector is labeled 8K UHD, Gold plated HDMI connector ,corrosion resistant

that cable on the ANKR looks thick as hell
, you cant even fold it without bending it lol
I just setup 4 of these 15' cables on our main TV, and they run 4K 120hz without problem.

Good quality HDMI cables do actually matter IF you are connecting devices at higher resolution and frame rates.

1080p? Any cables will do. 4K HDR@60, you might need a decent cable.

I have a receiver that is fussy at consistently negotiating the highest picture formats and good cables from zeskit largely eliminated the problem. These Anker cables are longer and rated for the same bandwidth at half the price, so a great deal.

LTT spent a lot of money on equipment to measure/rate HDMI cables and the results show they are definitely not all the same.

Anker isn't 'high quality.' They did an amazing job convincing the internet that their products were in line with the industry name brands at a fraction of the price but they're just not. I was one of those people convinced and I bought lots of Anker stuff over the years. My Anker USB cables were some of the first to fail, even the 'high end' braided stuff. I even have no-name brand chinese cables that have lasted longer and they were half the price of the Ankers. On top of that, I bought several different models of Anker power strips and several of the USB ports have failed on them. Every model I own has one of more failed USB ports.

This HDMI cable looks like a generic chinese cable with Anker stamped on it. If it is then it's no different than any one of those 'no name' brands that also slap their random generated names on generic cables except that they mark them up with that Anker branding.
