I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

I have a related question. Would this be better than a 2013 Mac Pro 6,1 (trashcan) for productivity apps? Not home lab or gaming use but office work and occasional video/photo/sound editing?

I have one running as a jellyfin and blueiris server and it works great. For this price with ram and a ssd, it's a steal.

What do we expect from Intel any more? Without government subsidies it is supposed to be bellied up now…
I expect them to do refreshes just like AMD does all the time. AMD is still selling Zen 3 Cezanne APUs under new names. And Nvidia is releasing refresh+ GeForce 50 series disguised as a great leap forward using fake frames.

The Skymont cores in Arrow Lake offer huge IPC increases over the Gracemont cores in Alder Lake-N, so it was disappointing that this "Twin Lake" refresh (the N150, etc) is making us wait at least a year for something better.

https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-c...l-18a-node

However we are getting our first indications of something a lot better to replace it in the future. Wildcat Lake is a supposed 2 P-core, 4 LPE-core product. Bringing P-cores to this segment would mean massive single-thread performance increases, and Darkmont LPE-cores could be as good as low-clocked Golden Cove. On the 18A node, it would still be power efficient. If they go with Xe2-LPG, they can probably deliver +50-100% graphics performance with ease.

I have one of these and have been quite impressed. Was planning on running just browser based workflow, but installed Autodesk Fusion 360 and it runs great. Can't believe you can get a CAD capable computer with Windows 11 for $130. Slows down a little with large assemblies, but for part modeling it really works well. Machines that could handle that used to cost multiple $1,000's back in my day kids...

I don't know exactly what happened but: I ordered one of these, went back to the page and saw a 10% coupon. I was able to use that to bring the price down to 125.99 (it showed the $10 coupon but didn't apply it). I order it at that price then cancelled my first order.

Mac Pro 2013 had Xeon workstation processors.

That old high end Mac is still probably then going to be 2-4x times as powerful as this bargain basement mini computer.

EDIT : Looks like I was mistaken and I was a generation off on the Xeon used. That old Mac pro is closer to same performance level as this mini.

You are right that there is not a huge difference between the two, but the N150 apparently has the same 6W envelope as the N100 (i.e., it does not have higher electricity consumption). Plus, the part is two years newer. So with the same power envelope and a few other slight enhancements, I would rather get an N150 over an N100 when they are effectively the same price. If you want a deep dive to see how similar/different the two processors are, here's a comparison link at Intel:

https://www.intel.com/content/www...803,241636

I've read this info several places:

TDP of n100 is 6W. TDP of n150 is 10W. TDP of n97 is 12W.

n150 is fastest CPU.

n97 is fastest GPU.

Interestingly, Intel doesn't mention TDP, but rather PBP, which Intel says is an equivalent:

https://www.intel.com/content/www...636,231803

I'm guessing the N150 is a slightly overclocked N100 & probably will use more power over time, but it will be minimal.

for an extra $8 you could upgrade to the N97. Seems like its probably worth the extra few dollars. Thoughts?

N97 cpu is better than n100 and n150. PLUS, n97 linked has 12gb of DDR5 ram, which will boost performance even further. This n150 mini pc only has 8gb of DDR4. 🤮

Intel's "TDP" bs has been lies since day 1. They 're processors always go higher than they say.

I've got an old 16gb ddr4 stick from a retired laptop as well as a small nvme stick (sometimes these little minipcs come with a sata SSD) .. and the N97 is definitely more powerful, but at the cost of more power consumption:
