I'm not a gamer myself, but this system is significantly more powerful than a Raspberry Pi without a doubt. There is a Linux distro called Batocera.Linux (https://batocera.org/) that is supposedly a turn-key solution for turning mini pc's like this into gaming consoles. Besides that, this comes with an apparently legit copy of Win 11 Pro as part of the $130 price tag.

Anyway, if your goal is retro gaming, a Raspberry Pi is smaller and more energy-efficient for these types of tasks, but honestly, once you add in a case, a good power supply (RPi's are picky with respect to power...), and storage, it is probably at the same price or even more than this $130 machine. But if you are interested in more modern gaming or more powerful emulation, this system would be better and give you more flexibility for future upgrades.
Fyi check out Reddit minipc forum, some users mention that these effectively have ZERO warranty.

Just saying buyers might want to read up.
N150 is a minor bump-up from N100

for an extra $8 you could upgrade to the N97. Seems like its probably worth the extra few dollars. Thoughts?https://a.co/d/1YJ3ZLg
The linked nucbox g5 cannot accept an additional m.2 sata drive as storage, and the ram is not upgradable. Great little machine tho. It's also tiny.

Is this better than a raspberry pi for the guts of an arcade build?
It would be better -- unless the rasberry pi came with a 256GB NVMe and 8GB of RAM and its own power supply, a case and a wif module.

Mac Pro 2013 had Xeon workstation processors.

That old high end Mac is still probably then going to be 2-4x times as powerful as this bargain basement mini computer.
Ackshully............ those used the first gen Xeon E5-16xx - of which the most common was the 1620, a 4C/8T CPU with 130W TDP and almost identical performance to this. How times have changed woot

I'm planning to replace my son's aging HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF with this mini PC. He mostly plays Minecraft on it. Would this be able to run Minecraft @ 1080p?

Demons live forever on the Internet.
If you are truly concerned always do a reformat-reinstall of Windows.

Uber worried - swap the hd out and install fresh
Or
Install Linux or Chrome OS on the existing/new drive

Super Uber concerned -
Move along, nothing for you here. Go build your own.

Except if the firmware is compromised, it's possible for it to reinstall the virus from the bootloader.

Unless you specifically need Windows, you can wipe all preinstalled software and just install a Linux distro of your choice. Just as safe as any brand new system at that point. Could probably get a bit more performance out of it compared to a full fledged Windows 11 distribution too.
You could also just wipe it and reinstall Windows from an ISO you get from Microsoft, they make it easy. I do that with any new machine anyway so I don't have to deal with removing their big pile of "value add" stuff.

And if you are worried about that, then you fall under the Super Uber concerned group.

Everyone is singling out these mini PCs for these worries, but if that's the case then so too about "insert any CN designed and made electronic device, or containing CN chips"

YMMV

I've read this info several places:

TDP of n100 is 6W. TDP of n150 is 10W. TDP of n97 is 12W.

n150 is fastest CPU.

n97 is fastest GPU.

Interestingly, Intel doesn't mention TDP, but rather PBP, which Intel says is an equivalent:

https://www.intel.com/content/www...636,231803 [intel.com]

I'm guessing the N150 is a slightly overclocked N100 & probably will use more power over time, but it will be minimal.
TDP is a measure of the heat a processor can put out, not a measure of performance or energy efficiency or anything else. It's also up to the manufacturer to determine based on whatever secret criteria they use, it's not a standardized thing across the industry. So it's largely useless unless you're buying a heatsink.

The n150 should run Minecraft Bedrock just fine, as long as you're not going crazy with mods and such.

But if you want to compare the n150 performance with the HP you currently have, we need to know what CPU is in the HP and if there is a separate GPU. Chances are, it's so old and small, that it doesn't have a separate GPU, so the n150 will likely perform better than it.

Good point. So we still want the lowest TDP for whatever performance level we are looking for.

Too bad there's next to no N350s out there. That processor seems like a significant upgrade with only 1W TDP more
