I think how fast it freezes affects it too, but not sure why that matters unless you're making a TV commercial.

Humm, I purchased the Avanti one from Walmart for $45. Get this one or keep the Avanti one? They both seem similar

Does it actually produce clear ice or does the ice come out looking cloudy?

It's usually cloudy, but isn't that also dependent on what water the person is using?

Not really. Mostly the freezing process as I'm sure it's quite understood you'd be putting drinking quality water in to an ice cube maker…

Clear ice is made when all of the gasses and impurities are allowed to move away from the advancing ice. I don't know exactly how this is doing but I'd imagine it just freezes all solid causing the cloudiness. As an example clear ice making is restraint hotel ice makers. They basically run water over a could plate and the ice builds up but impurities and constantly wash away, then when the ice is built the cold plate switch warm and the ice melts just a little and fall off the plate and that's the crash you hear as it's making ice.

Water quality is definitely a factor but from what I've learned you want the ice to freeze slowly. I wrap my tray in a couple kitchen towels for insulation. The machines that make clear ice are $$$.
