Possible, if you use a sim unlock sticker

No. T-Mobile branded phones can be used on T-Mobile MVNOs while locked, but Metro-branded phones are restricted to Metro only.

Just wondering can I have their service on any non smart phone? I have one old Sprint CDMA phone just wanted to see if it's even possible? Also, how do we even sign up? once I click the free plan, it's taking me to a page where they are asking to download their app and hence the question
Your Sprint CDMA phone will not work, unless it also is eligible to be used on the current T-mobile network. This is a traditional cellular plan (not data only), and needs to meet all the current requirements. You can check the IMEI on either T-Mobile's website, or Mint Mobile's BYOP IMEI check tool. You should also check the Android version on that old phone: the Helium app is required, and it needs Android 11 or higher.

Use Google voice then this can be your main line. You just use data for call/text
Is 3GB good enough for using Google Voice? How much data is used approximately for 1 hour phone call thru Google Voice?

Google said it's around 0.2M data per minute. So 12M data for one hour call.

I had been using Helium for a long time. I saved so much money, especially with mapping rewards. Internet and phone service is good, since it's using Tmobile's network.

Tempted to try. But Tello for 2nd phone at $6/mo for 1GB/100min has been consistent with no surprises or privacy issues.
