Want to hear something funny? Before Apple announced the iPad in 2010, it was usually the case that a tablet would cost more than a laptop. It's why rumor was the iPad would cost around $3k upon release. The industry went nuts when the iPad was released with a base price of $500.

Want to know something even more funny? That crazy low price, $700 for the 64GB version, adjusted for inflation is $1,000+ in 2025 money.

We've always been paying a grand.
Just buy new for $100 more at this point. What is even the point? lol
Agreed, but damn, in addition to that, how in the hell did they get us payin a grand for a tablet! I mean thats more than a MacBook Air! By HUNDREDS!

TBH a pretty solid deal, but would still recommend FB marketplace if not in a rush. Recently bought a 10-day old 13inch 256 cellular for 800

Got a 512GB cellular for $730. Too bad anyone selling a cellular version on FB marketplace is pretty much guaranteed not to pay their bill and the iPad will get blacklisted at some point.

You mean new at $1100? Like almost $200 more?

I still don't understand the use case for these versus a laptop? I guess if you /really/ want touch/pencil support within the apple ecosystem. I use my iPhone, MBP or LG Gram, my ipad never get touched.

Most folks use tablets for watching videos and playing games. This is probably too powerful for most use cases. I want it but cant justify even on discount. In the past i would get the most out of my tablet only when traveling.

Just got an open box fair for $850 locally. Will pick up tomorrow and decide to keep it or not depending on the condition.

What's the point of "more powerful" if you're limited by software capabilities.

Funny, the way I remember it, when the iPad was released everyone's first thought was: What the hell do we need an oversized iPhone for?! I recall it taking quite a while before the world even understood how a tablet could fit into their life. PC tablets were a whole different beast. They never sold well, they were horribly underpowered and they had terrible battery life. PDAs and Pocket PCs had that market share back then.

Something else funny.... I actually still have, with the factory box that original first iPad. The cellular version in fact!

Also have the iPad Pro M2 12.9" and the 6th Gen Mini, among many other iPads I've owned over the years. So yea, I'm bought in. Which is why I made the statement.
