I received a very odd call from AT&T today informing me that my bill will now be reduced by 22% going forward, along with a one-time credit of $150 and two free Apple 16 Pro Max's.

Ten minutes in, I was sure it was a scam even though they had my account info, so I started playing games with the guy. Thirty minutes later, I verified my account, and to my surprise, the credits were applied. The call was from the AT&T retention department. I've had endless issues over the past 4 months, so I'm guessing it has something to do with problematic customers.

If you receive a call, go through the motions and DON'T give any payment information over the phone, insist on bill charges, or store pickup.

Old bill: $479
Outstanding Bill: $329
New monthly: $373

The two new phones can be applied to any existing or new lines. We had five lines with older phones. These are not bill credits; they received a one-time credit to cover the phones.

Good luck if you receive the call! Don't dismiss it as spam like I almost did. This was by far the scammiest call I've ever had!

One more thing, the one time $150 credit was actually applied to my bill as a payment from an odd checking account. Either this is an elaborate scam or it's legit, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

***Edit for clarification***
The current bill is $479:
  • 9 Unlimited lines
  • Home Internet
  • Insurance on all the lines (no AppleCare needed)
  • $175 monthly credit, bringing the bill to $304 (These haven't started yet, march is the first month)
I know I wasn't very clear but I think $304/month for 9 unlimited lines and home internet is a great deal to begin with. Now they gave me a free $150, an additional monthly reduction of 22% AND two free Apple phones 16 Pro Max's.

Wow. $373 for 5 lines.. No wonder.....

(are taxes and fees included in $373)?

I will stick with my $210 for unlimited 12 lines with TM, tax and fees included.

Let's start the att vs tm vs verizon fight...

I think they should take your license to post on slickdeals away. For 5 lines, you are paying a lot.

What is your plan called?
$17.50/mo per line for unlimited unthrottled everything? Hotspot?
That's a pretty decent deal.

Skimmed the T-Mobile site, and it seems to max out at 5 lines without calling, but I'm seeing $220 for 5 lines ( Go5G Plus - 50GB high-speed mobile hotspot data,Unlimited talk and text, Unlimited premium data)

$479/mo to a telco is a measurable amount of sleep I would lose.

Got the same surprise call. Had to question them to make sure it wasn't a scam. Lowering the bill from $150 before tax to $102 total for 4 unlimited line. Let's see if true on the next bill. They are also sending me a free iPad Pro 13-inch. Didn't complain about anything before the surprise call.

My contract with AT&T recently ended so I am looking at options to leave. I would consider staying if they offered me 2 free phones and $150 and lowered my monthly plan costs. Is there any way to trigger such an offer?

Why not just switch to a company that is 30.00 total a month or less per line..

I think this is a sophisticated scam. Did anyone who received a call hang up and call ATT directly? I am thinking it is very weird that the payment came from a weird checking account. Maybe they verified to get access to your account and then added the checking information. ATT is so cheap so this is very fishy. Congrats if it is real but almost seems too good to be true.
