What does overheated mean? Are you saying that Maps and Spotify ran hot enough to shut down the phone, or is the phone running a little warm. There's a big difference. And you couldn't possibly have run both phones under the same conditions as the S25 hasn't been out long enough to see "Texas heat."

Pixel gave me a message it was overheating and had to cool off

You're right, I haven't tried yet quite that level of exertion on s25. But it has vapor chamber, a far more able chipset according to benchmarks, and I've been able to run games, YouTube, and Spotify and switch between them with nary a stutter, which wasn't the case on any Pixel I've had. The heat will be interesting test. It's in the car as I'm navigating with mobile data on and in dashboard with sun on it that it had issues

Can one install custom firmware before the carrier unlock date?
Will that mess up the carrier unlock later on?

So if I buy a $45 for 3 months of service, activate on another phone, how quickly can I buy the phone for $399?

In other threads people were able to do it the same/next day. YMMV.

I don't believe you can root or unlock the bootloader on a carrier locked phone.

In fact carrier unlock does not always mean bootloader unlock either. But I've never tried it with a modern Pixel so can't say for sure.

Just not hearing a lot of chatter about overheating in the 9 series, and with the vapor chamber, well...

No phone with a locked bootloader can run a non-standard ROM or be rooted.

Somebody out there ought to know if these Mint phones can be bootloader unlocked. I can't remember if mine was or not. 7 years of support is slowly killing off the custom ROM thing. anyway.

The pixels are cheaper than the Samsungs they compete with, I would certainly expect them to perform slower in benchmarks. Each has their strengths, but if you're looking for the best processor, Samsung pretty much has the market cornered on that, and it comes at a premium.

Honestly I don't see the 9 Pro XL to be a good value since it is priced pretty close to (but not as much as) the S24 Ultra.

OnePlus 13 brought the Snapdragon 8 Elite last year, last month in the U.S. Also a few hundred cheaper than the s25 ultra.

I only switched from my OnePlus 9 to a Pixel 9 Pro XL because it was $200 from T-Mobile with 6 Pro trade in back in November.

Mint Mobile is the best deal, IMO. I switched to them about 4 year ago and haven't looked back. Just as reliable as any major carrier but a fraction of the cost. Even their international service is way cheaper. I'm traveling in Panama at the moment and service is seamless here. And Mint only charges $20 for a 10-day international plan.

I agree with the switching. I switched from TMo and it works just the same if not better. I would recommend Holafly or similar for an international global pass. Unless you needed to use text/min, this pass is expensive vs using the secondary sim wifi calling/text

Is Mint Mobile in the room with you right now?
How could it be since it doesn't actually exist?

It is no secret that T-Mobile owns Mint. Even before they bought them last year, it used the T-Mobile network. They are and have always been a T-Mobile MVNO.

There is no scam or fraud. They also purchased Metro years ago, same thing.
Calling Mint and getting T-Mobile means Mint does not actually exist. Keep defending corporate fraud.

If there's any fraud going on it's people paying full price for the major carriers. $15 a month for Mint on the same network? Yes please.

Beware that if anything goes wrong and you'll need a refund, you'll go through hell and waste countless hours of your time with their totally useless CS (that cannot do anything, but submit requests to 'back office' ) and still won't be getting your money back

Bought Pixel 9 for $300 in November. Fedex couldn't collect a signature (I was not home) and ended up returning the package back to Mint as 'undeliverable'. Normally, the company is supposed to issue a refund or replacement once they get the package back. Not Mint Mobile! It has been 3 months since, I still cannot get my money back from them... Turns out, Mint Mobile really (like really really) doesnt like issuing refunds. There are dozens of similar reports on reddit. You have been warned.
