i own this. one advantage is that it came with both alligator clips AND a very handy OBD2 connector. the OBD2 allows charge thru OBD2 port as an option.

I don't see anywhere on the product page that shows it includes odb2 charging adapter...

Edit: I decided to purchase anyway and just received the unit, and it did come with an ODBII adapter. you were absolutely right FairWinter. Thank you!

This is not correct, solar panels not exposed to light most definitely USE electricity, also most of these have status lights or other circuits that use electricity. If the panel isn't working right to create electricity (or isn't exposed to enough light during the day) it's definitely possible for it to drain a battery. Better/industrial systems have controllers that shut the panels off at night so they aren't using power out of the storage system.

Can this panel be rigged to another device so it can connect to 110V devices for a direct charge? This is more cost effective than buying a portable generator. I would like to use it for camping or a day at the beach.

The same brand has the 10W model for $23.99 that also includes a cigarette lighter connector

Bought this, connected it up and my car battery was totally dead when I went to go move it later that night. Another solar charger years ago ruined my rpm gauge in my cluster …

Technically, yes you can. But you would need two more devices, not one. This solar panel turns photons into electrons. You would need a battery to store the electrons as DC power and then an inverter to convert the power from DC to AC. Basically, one of the portable generators you mentioned. There's no way to convert photons from the Sun directly into steady 110V 60Hz AC power. I don't think physics works that way.

Any idea how efficient this would be in a shaded area? I'd love to have power to my boat but it's pretty well shaded and I don't know if this would put out any juice. Not looking for too much just to keep them topped off when it sits.
Shade mean it'll get very little charging, if any. Don't recommend this for your use unless you can prop it in the sun.

Giving this one a shot, the last one of these I bought I had the same experience as the other poster that it drained the battery more than it charged it.

I would ignore that review because that's simply not possible with solar lol. Power is one way.

Unless they connected it backwards. OR they didn't remove the plastic wrapping from the metal tongs and the battery drained because it didn't get power. I had a sibling replace his car battery and his car wouldn't start because he didn't remove the plastic from the battery terminals. There's lots of people like this out there.

I hate all these "yes it does & no it does not" arguments. First you go down the rabbit hole researching these claims with no definitive (and censored) results, after all that you still need to test it yourself, leading to you purchasing the item. Seems to be all on purpose & part of the plan....AI figured out how to accomplish this. At least AZ has a great return policy.

I gotta admit this seems really cool for under $25 I think I just found a new practical toy to play with.

I have a sunroof in my truck too Smilie wonder if pushing power thru the 12v port in the cabin actually works, you would think it would have a diode or something to prevent backflow.

But I also have power lines right under my seat for my ham radio that are hooked directly to the battery and even has a startup relay to protect from surge.

Typically the only issue with using a 12v "lighter socket" is whether or not they stay on when the vehicle is off. Our Fords for example stay hot as long as the battery is above a certain state of charge, but my dad's subaru shuts off either immediately or after a short delay.

That's electrically impossible for solar to "use energy" lmao. It only produces.
Could the charger itself be drawing power?

For a properly designed and working one in a system, sure, but bare solar panels not making power are essentially a resistor, any time you put a resistor across a power source you will drain power. Good solar panels will have controllers or blocking diodes to prevent this from becoming a problem, but assuming a Chinese solar panel can't EVER discharge a battery is naive at best.

I would assume that most/all of these have diodes in place to block the reverse flow, but maybe not.

From the description:

Upgraded Smart Charger Controller] The smart charger controller built into the solar panel has six protection functions: over-temperature protection, prevention of reverse discharge, short circuit prevention, prevention of reverse polarity and over-charging protection. Meanwhile the built-in blocking diode plays an important role in blocking reverse current flow.
