i own this. one advantage is that it came with both alligator clips AND a very handy OBD2 connector. the OBD2 allows charge thru OBD2 port as an option.

I don't see anywhere on the product page that shows it includes odb2 charging adapter...

Edit: I decided to purchase anyway and just received the unit, and it did come with an ODBII adapter. you were absolutely right FairWinter. Thank you!

This is not correct, solar panels not exposed to light most definitely USE electricity, also most of these have status lights or other circuits that use electricity. If the panel isn't working right to create electricity (or isn't exposed to enough light during the day) it's definitely possible for it to drain a battery. Better/industrial systems have controllers that shut the panels off at night so they aren't using power out of the storage system.

Only see a 25% coupon that brings it down to $23.38

Also tried adding the coupon to the "Enter a gift card, voucher or promotional code" section and that didn't work. Is there another place to enter this?

Never mind, tried it a second time and it worked.

Updated my original comment. You were absolutely right. They really need to add that to their product information because it was almost a deal breaker. Thanks!

I forgot about this post and almost missed out. The coupon code didn't work but then I went back to the shopping cart and it showed the correct price. I don't know why it worked but it worked. Woohoo!

I would ignore that review because that's simply not possible with solar lol. Power is one way.

Unless they connected it backwards. OR they didn't remove the plastic wrapping from the metal tongs and the battery drained because it didn't get power.
The charger circuit, which tries to prevent overcharge, has to use battery power to stay alive and keep checking status. That will drain your battery if there's not enough sunlight to replace the amps it had to use.

Bought this, connected it up and my car battery was totally dead when I went to go move it later that night. Another solar charger years ago ruined my rpm gauge in my cluster …
No It did not.
It happened to me. I was working out of town one summer, and thought i'd be clever and leave a 1.5w solar charger on my car to keep the battery from dying. The first few months were fine, but after one hot month, i returned home and found my battery completely dead & unchargeable, and my instrument panel fvcked up (fuel gauge, and maybe temp too, i forget).

TLDR: don't trust these things long-term. Disconnect your battery and use a plug-in trickle charger.

Can this panel be rigged to another device so it can connect to 110V devices for a direct charge? This is more cost effective than buying a portable generator. I would like to use it for camping or a day at the beach.
This is rated at 7.5W max, that's in ideal conditions so it's more likely to put out 5-6W. Running it directly through an inverter to 110V isn't going to work as solar doesn't provide stable voltage or current. Now, if one wanted to use it to charge a cell phone or tablet for example, one could convert it directly from "12V" (actual voltage will vary) to 5V using a buck converter such as this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B8C5MT37
It would charge really slow as it just doesn't generate much power, but it should work.

I'd rather (and have) gone to harbor freight and for $20 get a trickle charger that plugs in

Scotty said don't mess with the OBD plug.

This is kinda true. Anytime you plug anything into the OBD2 you have a chance to FUBAR your computer.

Some cars dont have constant 12V, and thus easier to keep this plugged inside.

Technically, yes you can. But you would need two more devices, not one. This solar panel turns photons into electrons. You would need a battery to store the electrons as DC power and then an inverter to convert the power from DC to AC. Basically, one of the portable generators you mentioned. There's no way to convert photons from the Sun directly into steady 110V 60Hz AC power. I don't think physics works that way.
So it's doable just have to be on standby to make sure nothing blows up, def no set it and forget it.

The same brand has the 10W model for $23.99 that also includes a cigarette lighter connector https://amazon.com/dp/B017K6PH1S
I heard the cigarette lighter socket often doesn't work properly for charging, does someone knows if it's true?

I bought this one [amazon.com] for a generator battery and really like it. Now it has a 15% off coupon making it around $17. Well worth it!
