Unfortunately t mobile charges $30 extra on phones (apple sells ip16 for 800 and t mobile for 830.
T mobile also asked for $35 connection charge.
This extra $65 surcharge makes it less appealing ☹️

So you can get an iPhone 13 by just porting a number and paying $75. There is no ongoing costs for a few months related to the metro phone line?

T-Mobile will unlock your iPhone temporarily for one month if you are traveling international. If you need it extended after the first month, you need to call T-Mobile customer service again.

Carriers have always only paid to acquire new customers. I don't like it either. Switch to another carrier/mvno every 2 years and play the game.
Otherwise, you buy the new phones as the cost of getting a better monthly price than current plans.

Yes it qualifies. I'm on the ONE plan.
I did this on all my lines and 2 of them are on EIP.
Some folks report they got lucky with reps that allowed the unlock. However, many more report it was denied and officially it's now against policy. See my posts 2 above, i directly messaged T-Mobile.
It sucks. See my post directly above. It's hit or miss whether a rep grants it to you or not. officially iphones are not allowed anymore.

So far no issues. I believe they have a higher tier plan with full Verizon bandwidth and no deprioritization for $35/month if that's a concern.
I spoke to the rep and she had said it wont be reflected on your receipt/contract/agreement but once the phones are activated, monthly credit will be applied. They have it noted internally and anyone who upgraded during this period are qualified.
I currently have an iPhone 16, but wanted to upgrade to 16 Pro. I went to Metro and got an iPhone 13 for $75 by porting in a burner line. Then used that 13 as the trade with TMo.
For the 16 Pro, was ~$120 due today and I'll owe $170 paid across 24 months. Add the $75 for the 13 from Metro, and I'm in the hole for about $365. I'll then sell my unlocked iPhone 16 for at least $577 on Swappa.
They let you keep magenta max as well? I am reading conflicting information that they are forcing you to upgrade to the go5g whatever which costs more.
this was the 'glitch' several years ago. people would call up tmobile and ask for a temp lock but that would fully unlock the iPhone
