This is tempting, but I got burned by Elegoo on the Neptune 3, when they released the Neptune 3 Pro 6 months later and all firmware updates on the 3 stopped entirely. The Marlin and Klipper community never had an officially supported config (it's been a while since I checked) due to garbage documentation of the board they used.

Lots of people raised this issue on Reddit, Facebook etc, and Elegoo pretty much said too bad.

Hard for me to trust initial releases after that, especially when a lot of "reviews" thus far are from paid YouTubers.

Just my 2 cents.

This is not a resin printer; it's a FDM printer that uses rolls of filament. Here is a link that explains the differences. [formlabs.com]

I found you can use promo code SASE10 to take off another $10. Helps take the shipping cost down.

This one or the Bambu A1 combo?
I like this one because it is enclosed but you have to wait at least 3 months to get it whereas you can get the Bambu right away.

Right, the enclosure is interesting

I am new to 3D printing, but did watch the link provided by metlfan2003, thank you a great link for sure. Upon some research, SLA printing is not much more expensive, especially from Elegoo, but yield a much better result. Any reason why go with the filament type? I do like the carbon aspect for parts durability with FDM but I have seen some prints that were horrible using it. Just looking for some input on both systems.

As someone with both an SLA and FDM printer, SLA will have significantly smaller build volume than an FDM and you can only print in resin, whereas an FDM can do much more.

If you primarily print mini figs, models, things needing fine detail, etc., an SLA is best.

If you want to print big stuff an FDM is for you.

In addition to the size issues discussed above, the "ink" is much different. Resin printers are the champs for details in your parts. I have a friend who prints really great N-scale model railroad parts. The limitation of resin is it doesn't like the following: Heat, sustained loads, UV light. Before being cured it also is a liquid that can be messy. There also can be some health concerns.

The most common FDM filament is PLA with perhaps PETG, ABS or ASA being the next most common types (I'm guessing vs looking at sales data). All of these are basically safe, consumer grade plastics when cool. You don't have to worry about spilling them. Any little bits can be vacuumed/swept up. There is basically no mess to speak of. While PLA isn't the best at dealing with high temperatures (it will get easy to bend after sitting in a car over a hot summer day), ASA and others are plenty suitable for use in the sun and/or hot cars/sheds etc. With FDM printers you can print parts that will be used outside. With care (and typically, but not always, enclosed printers) you can print with more advanced filaments that have more strength and environmental durability. Note that a number of these do out gas biochemicals like formaldehyde so good ventilation is a must. PLA is generally safe but most others come with some level of out gassing concerns.

I pre-ordered on day 1 and cancelled my order on Friday. I'll order again in q3 when the multi color add-on releases and they have a reduced price bundle for both.

I think this is a good move. Again no reason to jump in since this price is normal and not a preorder price. The AMS like add on is key not just for multi color but also for having a variety of filaments loaded. I will be interested to see if you can add more than one AMS to this machine as well.

FYI, I got mine in Saturday (bought 3 mins after launch) and I've really been liking it so far. The prints are pretty spectacular. A few negatives for sure like the camera is terrible and I really hope they do some serious work on the firmware (and open it up). I wish it had a ethernet port, but wifi will suffice for now.

Anyway I'm VERY impressed at the value of this thing. I'm replacing a Neptune 4 Pro so I have already been impressed with Elegoo. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Looks like it'll support multi filament printing in the future? How would that work?
We still don't know. It it set up for it in some ways like the poop shoot and a built in filament slicer, but others less so. For example, the front USB is the only port on the unit so how will it communicate with a AMS/MMU?

Ok. Maybe time to move on from a thread you have no interests in.
I am interested, and the real world experiences from members who have purchased an elegoo are super helpful.

I hope it's great and I buy a replacement for my pretty old ender 3. But what i'm reading is making me pause on any preorder.

I have zero knowledge w/ 3D printing. Which is better since I've been noticing deal on slickdeals.
Flashforge 5M or Elegoo Centauri Carbon?
Can someone explain the difference? I do want to 3D print some handles for my retro gaming handheld. Maybe even 3D print a gameboy like handheld. Thanks.

The non-Carbon model is $199. Seems crazy for a self enclosed printer to be that cheap... Both seem very competitively priced.
Though I have not had a TON of experience with the Carbon yet (got it Saturday), it already seems pretty freaking awesome. Considering the $199 Centauri is basically the same thing without an enclosure and a few other bells and whistles (camera) it is an absolute STEAL!!!

I'm thinking $199 unit will be my go to recommendation for anyone interested in getting into 3D printing. It might not be quite as user friendly as the Bambu, but it just DESTROYS the bambu in value. The A1 mini still costs more and doesn't even compare. Core XY is the way to go. I won't go back to bed slingers.

If I plan on printing something like a gameboy shell or retro handheld shell. Should I go w/ this printer or a resin one? I'm also brand new to 3D printing. Thanks.

I'll disagree on the enclosure. For one, as people get into it more, they may want to print materials that benefit from an enclosure. But also, as we learn more about the off-gasing and nanoparticles given off by printing and how those affect us, an enclosure can keep some of that inside so a small filter can trap them. Just like resin safety is important, I'm really considering filtration part of FDM safety/PPE for the future.
I'm brand new. Could you explain this more about the safety of filtration? Do I need to have some type of air filter around a 3D printer? Is it expelling toxican into the air?

I had to do the same thing; I cant even order extra nozzles or beds yet.
I'm new to this. If I were to pre order the Carbon, do I need to add extra stuff to begin printing? What is recommended for a newbie? What extra stuff should I add? Thanks.
