I just applied and got denied with an 820 credit score but with over 30 cards and 0 debt
Cons: Customer service is not as consumer friendly as Chase or Amex
$250 travel credit has to be spent through their terrible portal, which is just a Hopper re-skin and routes reservations through 3rd parties (my last was an Expedia reservation). Most costs for the portal are higher than if you have an account with 3rd party sites like Booking, Agoda, or Priceline and CapOne will NOT match a logged-in price. There is no telephone customer service for booking.

Pros: Eno vendor specific CC numbers with number cancellation and holds are great for online signups
2 points per dollar spent and direct reimb. for travel using points at 1pt=1c is essentially a 2% cash back card if you travel
No foreign tx fees (for those who travel internationally)

If you travel a little, it's a good card. If you travel more than 3-4 times a year, especially if your preferred airport has a CapOne lounge, the VentureX is a better product to have ($395AF), but this is a good stop gap with a solid bonus.
What's in MY wallet? Too many cards. That's what CapOne tells me every time when they hard-pull all three bureaus to deny me with 800+ FICO.

How does one get this 100k offer?

Select current Venture cardholders have the 100k refer-a-friend offer available in their account to send out to friends.

814 credit score and denied with only 7 or 8cards. Four of them are on the newer side but still don't understand the denial.

At what threshold do they consider it too many cards?

Anybody approved with 6 cards? 5 cards? 4 or fewer?

I had 10 open credit cards at the time I got approved for this card last month. Of those 10 credit cards, my newest card (before the Venture) is almost 2 years old (a Citi credit card that I opened in April 2023, according to creditkarma).

I suggest going through Capital One's pre-approval process. That's what I did this time around (and the Venture was on my list of pre-approved credit cards). I applied for the Venture card sometime last year and was denied at that time.

Their travel portal is pretty terrible. I tried to use my promo credit recently and after figuring out all plans, I tried to book the hotel. I kept getting an 'uh oh something went wrong'. I called them and travel rep said it's not available despite showing available even the next day. If you Google this problem, you'll see it happens pretty often making it pretty unreliable

Coming from Finance, you were most likely denied because you have TOO much open revolving credit with $0 balances, or you carry high balances on your high credit score. Most likely it is the first reason as I have seen denials when there is an excess of credit card and available balances.

Is it possible at all to redeem the 75k as a statement credit for the purchases, or does it have to be used for travel miles only?

You can credit yourself back for travel purchases. I booked wisconsin dells, and it coded as travel and I was able to use points to pay for it at .01 value.

if u redeem as a statement credit (cashback) , 75k points is = $375
but if u redeem it for a travel related purchase, 75k points = $750.

you have to wait for 48 months before reapplying this card.
search in your email inbox?
or if you have access to capital one app/login, look for old statements.
