Just got off the phone with the unlocking department. They stated that the phone needs to be active for 60 days. This contradicts other reports on this thread, so I guess I'm the unlucky one. They said that the terms said subject to change at any time. The agent was a bit rude, to be honest. Never again with this company. I have wasted so much time and hassle with this stupid runaround.

Activated on 3/4
Added 2nd month of service on 5/3
Phone will be unlocked on 6/2

Contacted live chat. Rep instructed to purchase another 30 days of active service and wait entire 30 days for unlock. Would not make a request ticket to expedite until I threatened to file an FCC complaint.

Will wait 72 hours for response to ticket before purchasing additional month.

It's day 62 after activation and my phone is still locked.

I reached out to customer service and they said the new unlock policy applies, even though I activated before April 2025. I've filed an FCC complaint because that seems to be the only way to get Tracfone brands to actually do the right thing.

Service activated Mar 4, 2025; remains locked as of May 3, 2025 (60 days). Only first month paid. Will edit this tomorrow to update what happens for me on the 61st day after activation.

  • May 5, 2025. They are telling me I need to wait until June 3rd for it automatically unlock.
  • May 5, 2025 - Contacted them again. Need to wait until June 3. Day 62.
  • May 6, 2025 - Still no unlock. Day 63.
  • May 7, 2025 - Still no unlock. Day 64.
  • May 10, 2025 - Still no unlock. Day 67.
  • May 23, 2025 - Filled out the form on http://tfwunlockpolicy.com . It said the phone is eligible for unlock. Day 80.

Activated on 3/7, deactivated 4/6, reactivated 4/10 on the bronze plan. Unlocked today 5/5 after I restarted the phone. Weird, I was expecting this tomorrow. I haven't talked to anyone in CS about it.

Bumping this in the thread
They also told me that I need to wait, but I just left the phone plugged in and connected to WiFi, rebooted a few times, and it unlocked automatically. Make sure you're connected to WiFi and try rebooting several times per day, it should unlock. Don't trust the reps

Thanks for the tip!

Did you deactivate or delete the previous Straight Talk eSIM from the phone before doing this?

No, I did turn on WiFi calling though, but I don't think that affected anything. I only removed the eSIM after the phone showed "No SIM restrictions".

Dealing with anything TracFone-brand related is a mess so I opted to just add a second month of service for the sake of my mental health. Phone still shows SIM locked but their unlocking dept confirmed it's unlocked on their end and I ran an IMEI check online which also shows the same. So, just keeping the phone on and connected to WiFi to wait for it to reflect the unlock.

Great deal on the 16e for sure.

Did you add the extra month close to the 60 day timespan or right after the first month lapsed?

Now all the reps at unlocking dept said I need 60 continuous days of active service in order to unlock it. Paid again on 5/3 and need to wait 29 more days. All 3 different reps I talked told me the same thing.
