I just bit the bullet bought the second month. However, looking at the year for Silver as $360 bringing it down to $30.00 a month does not seem like a bad deal at all. For folks that actually have straight talk service how has it been for you. No I wish I had really test driven the first month instead of sitting in a drawer Wink

this has been a terrible experience. I gave up too. Got 2nd month, but it's not continuous by a few days). I hope I don't have to do a 3rd month in order to make 60 days continuous.

I was told by 2 different representatives that it DOES NOT have to be 60 days contiguous, just 60 days total. We will see on June 7th I guess. I am holding out hope, slightly that it goes ahead and unlocks as some others that added the 2nd month have reported.

That is correct. According to their unlocking policy:
For all cellphones Activated on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the cellphone will be remotely unlocked automatically 60 days after paid Activation and 60 days of paid active service.

Of course, they could always retroactively change the policy again. But if they do, I will definitely file every complaint imaginable.

Welp. Looks like I am in the same boat as some others. Ordered 02/25/2025Activated 03/06/2025Made some test phone calls and sent a few test text. Stuck in a drawer and here on day 63 still showing SIM locked. I've factory reset the phone, restarted a few times, etc. So, if reading correctly, my options are
  1. Pay for another month and wait up to another 60 days?
  2. File the complaints and dispute with CC
File and dispute with CC first. Then after successfully getting your money back. Buy and activate another month.

File complaints with FCC BBB FTC and your State Attorney general office. Have ChatGPT write the letters for you.
Attach all of your letters and copies of the unlock policy prior and current to your dispute with your credit card company. You have a solid case, you'll likely win the dispute. In the end you'll get an iphone 16e for the cost of one month or they will unlock it.

one would think he would need to return the phone if he does a charge back and gets refunded.

I filed an FCC and BBB complaint yesterday and already received 2 calls from them this morning. What's funny is they were both in regards to the BBB complaint (not FCC) and they were back to back calls with different people. I wasn't able to pick up either call but the voicemail they left asked me to call back to a specific number and extension. Both person who called (within 5 minutes of each other) had an Indian accent. Honestly every time I filed a BBB in the past, it's someone with no accent from the "executive" team. I haven't called back but this doesn't look good.

EDIT: They also e-mailed me asking for a number and best time to call.

I first activated my iPhone 16e on March 6th. I looked at the data points in this thread on May 4th and on May 5th decided to buy another month of the Bronze $35 plan. Checked today and my phone still showing "SIM LOCKED".
I then called the unlocking dept # provided on this thread and asked the agent when it would be unlocked or if it can be unlocked now.
The agent took down the IMEI # and stated that it will be auto unlocked on June 4th.
I was hoping for earlier but will have to play the waiting game and report back by then.

You could check the status on sickw.com with IMEI. (If it shows unlocked but your phone still shows locked, I think some did factory reset or insert a non-TF SIM.) Mine showed unlocked on sickw the day after I paid 2nd month service (phone is still sealed in box). Here's my timeline:
  • 2/10/25 activated an ST iPhone 13 with required $55 plan. Phone became inactive after 30 days, and remained locked after 60 days (based on sickw.com).
  • 4/16/25 was able to submit an unlock request via portal (said eligible) and got a ticket number but phone still locked after a few days (based on sickw.com). Couldn't check 'My Support' status in account because phone was inactive.
  • 4/19/25 called the Unlocking Department with the ticket # and was told 2nd month payment required for unlock. (checked the unlock portal again and it changed to 'ineligible')
  • 4/25/25 sickw.com showed phone still locked. Paid a $35 plan to reactivate the phone.
  • 4/26/25 sickw.com showed phone unlocked! (ticket status still Open in 'My Support' and the unlock portal still shows the 'device is not eligible for our Unlocking Program.')

Sunday was day 60 for me, I was hopeful but still figured I'd need to buy a second month so did that yesterday when it was still locked (day 61 @ 3:36 PM PDT).

Today (day 62 @ 9:23 AM PDT) it's still SIM locked but I'll post again when it changes. Hopefully we don't need to wait the full 30 days, it seems like most have it unlocked before the second month of service is up so I'm trying to stay optimistic.
Hmm, I guess at some point ST changed the timing of auto-unlocking?

I'd begrudgingly pay $35 to have it unlock tomorrow, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore per recent reports.

Update:

Filed BBB and FCC complaint yesterday (5/7). Received 4 different calls today along with 2 emails. I have never gotten spammed by an "executive resolution" department. It's usually one person or a small team. The 4 different calls are from 4 different people who didn't know someone else had called. It tells me their "executive resolution" team is just another outsourced department with no real power.

Anyhow, I called back one of the numbers and was read the same garbage verbiage about 60 days of active service. I was expecting a bit of rudeness based upon what I've read here but the person was somewhat pleasant to deal with. He said he has no power to give me the unlock ( which is why I think their resolution department is not really a serious resolution department). He said he would talk to someone in the unlocking department to see if they can make a one time exception. He came back a few minutes later and said the unlocking department is very well aware of this "issue" and are refusing to make any exception. You need 60 days of continuous service is what I was told.

Needless to say they are likely bombarded with these complaints and are doubling down on holding the line. In the mean time, I let the agent know my next step is a chargeback. He was very apologetic but yeah I think talking to the unlock department at this point is futile.

They just need a class action letter sent to the General counsel to get any sort of "executive resolution."

I tried filing a chargeback with my AMEX but instead I got a lecture from a rep about how it's pointless. In the handful of times I've dealt with a complaint of a merchant, I've never had a service rep persuade me to give up. And on top of that, give me a lecture in a condescending tone.

I'm fairly annoyed and now all out of ideas on how to proceed.

3/6 - Delivered and Activated
4/6 - 30 days has passed and deactivated.
5/6 - Bought second month service for $30 and reactivated.
5/8 - Still locked, so I called unlocking department.
They said, it's still not eligible, then I asked when will it be eligible. They said, I've already had 33 days of service, and I needed to wait 27 (June 4) more. Then I asked, if I needed to buy another service. They said no need.

While on the phone with them, I recorded the conversation while confirming them today's date (5/8) and the day when it's eligible (6/4).
Not calling the FCC or BBB yet, since I'm still vacationing in the US, still have 2 weeks till I go home, and I need service anyway so it's not a big deal.

Reason I did not get second month of service at 4/6, is because I already bought Cricket's $45/3 months plan on my other phone, and again was expecting this to be unlocked on 5/6 with just one month of service.
