Are these better for surrounds in a 5.1 than the Klipsch bookshelf pair?

These are not for "surround", they are for the Atmos or "overhead" channels.

Not saying you can't use these for surrounds, but they are not ideal for that purpose.

So no, they would not be better.

Since so little sound goes through Atmos channels, would these sound much different than the RP-500SA IIs for watching movies?

Does anyone know if these an be mounted on a wall, but upside-down so that that are pointing up-ish? I have a sloped ceiling in my family room (8 feet tall in the rear where the couch is, 11' 5" tall wall opposing where the TV is), and I currently have "height" speakers mounted at 7' 5" of the ground on the TV wall (pointed at the couch). If I put these upside-down in their position, I wonder if the angle would be correct to get the ceiling bounce so it sounds like it's coming from above you.

Have height speakers is cool, and while it makes the sound-stage a lot bigger, you don't feel like anything is "above" you.

you cannot mount them upside down, they have a simple keyhole so it would fall off upside down

you can mount them on top of floor standing speakers though if you want them to bounce off the ceiling

I've tried these and a few others, and I think due to my vaulted ceiling, that Atmos for me, means I need directional speakers aimed at my listening position. It's been a long process, that I switched back to 5.1 and honestly love it.
But at some point I'll find something from Klipsch that I can place above and to the side forward a bit with directional that would work.
It's vaulted where a ceiling ridge is high up parallel to the couch. ugh.

I use these mounted high on the wall as my Atmos/Auro/Height speakers in the front and back to make a 5.3.4 with my denon 3800. They're angled down when mounted to a wall and I get the "above" you sound. I have sloped ceilings and wanted inceiling speakers but abandoned that idea pretty quickly.

*edit* I don't use them upside down. I mounted them like they're supposed to and the speakers already point down. No reason to bounce the sound.

This is my thought too, but would love to hear someone's opinion that has tried both. My plan is to take the satellite speakers from a HTIB and install them on a low ceiling pointing straight down. Obviously I don't expect the quality of the sound to be as good as this R-41SA, but $300 (or $600 for 2 pairs of the RP-500SA) is hard to justify for me if the satellite works at all.

Got this bundle for $164 a couple years ago, have replaced all the speakers with RP Klipsch and as soon as I pull the trigger on a 9.2 AVR, will try my satellite speaker idea.

RP is a higher quality, better built, more nuanced speaker, but if cost is a concern I would skimp on the height speakers before skimping on the front speakers. Front center channel is most important, as that is the primary dialogue speaker. Front left & right are the next most important.

I'll be the one that gets roasted on this...
Wife wouldn't let me run rear speakers unless I ran speaker wire in-wall, which would have to pass by a fireplace - which I didn't want to do. So I run a 3.1 setup with two Atmos speakers for the rear. It's not as good as a true 7.2 setup, but my wife isn't complaining. And my receiver had a microphone to auto-adjust the balances to make my makeshift setup suck less.
There's nothing special about Atmos speakers. They just point at an angle. The best approach for audiophiles with money is to get wall mounted speakers installed in the ceiling above your couch, and then run the wiring to the receiver. But that's a lot of work and money.
Most content in 2025 - if you consume YouTube, TV, most audio streaming services, etc., isn't even true 5.1, let alone 7.2. And a second subwoofer is just excess. Most people can't tell if a vibration is coming from the left or right since, again, most content doesn't provide dual subwoofer channels.
I'd honestly impulse buy these for my bedroom and do a similar fake rears as I do in my living room. But I run an overpriced but amazing Klipsch PowerGate that is only 2.1 for space reasons. And I don't have room for a center, as I have one of those fake fireplace heaters where the center would go.
I don't even know where people are getting 9.2 content from. Which means it is probably just driving additional speakers with duplicate sound channels. But it sounds cool. Wouldn't cheap out on mains or a center for it. But for things like music, I can see it being a more immersive experience. And I guess it future proofs you, presuming you don't need an eventual amplifier upgrade.

I wonder how much better they are than regular R-41 bookshelf speakers if you have a wall mount that allows you to tilt them downward. I picked up a pair of open box regular R-41's on Adorama for $75.

I've got RP IIs for LRC and surrounds. I'm considering Polk Audio RC60i since I've got a dropped ceiling in my basement, but haven't seem then on sale in the couple of months I'm been watching. It wouldn't be hard mount these either, but can't decide if the $300 for RP series would be worth paying double over the Polks or the Reference series.
