Not saying you can't use these for surrounds, but they are not ideal for that purpose.
So no, they would not be better.

Have height speakers is cool, and while it makes the sound-stage a lot bigger, you don't feel like anything is "above" you.

you can mount them on top of floor standing speakers though if you want them to bounce off the ceiling
But at some point I'll find something from Klipsch that I can place above and to the side forward a bit with directional that would work.
It's vaulted where a ceiling ridge is high up parallel to the couch. ugh.

*edit* I don't use them upside down. I mounted them like they're supposed to and the speakers already point down. No reason to bounce the sound.
Got this bundle for $164 a couple years ago, have replaced all the speakers with RP Klipsch and as soon as I pull the trigger on a 9.2 AVR, will try my satellite speaker idea.

Wife wouldn't let me run rear speakers unless I ran speaker wire in-wall, which would have to pass by a fireplace - which I didn't want to do. So I run a 3.1 setup with two Atmos speakers for the rear. It's not as good as a true 7.2 setup, but my wife isn't complaining. And my receiver had a microphone to auto-adjust the balances to make my makeshift setup suck less.
There's nothing special about Atmos speakers. They just point at an angle. The best approach for audiophiles with money is to get wall mounted speakers installed in the ceiling above your couch, and then run the wiring to the receiver. But that's a lot of work and money.
Most content in 2025 - if you consume YouTube, TV, most audio streaming services, etc., isn't even true 5.1, let alone 7.2. And a second subwoofer is just excess. Most people can't tell if a vibration is coming from the left or right since, again, most content doesn't provide dual subwoofer channels.
I'd honestly impulse buy these for my bedroom and do a similar fake rears as I do in my living room. But I run an overpriced but amazing Klipsch PowerGate that is only 2.1 for space reasons. And I don't have room for a center, as I have one of those fake fireplace heaters where the center would go.
I don't even know where people are getting 9.2 content from. Which means it is probably just driving additional speakers with duplicate sound channels. But it sounds cool. Wouldn't cheap out on mains or a center for it. But for things like music, I can see it being a more immersive experience. And I guess it future proofs you, presuming you don't need an eventual amplifier upgrade.
