Ever wanted to goof around with a Gretsch? I bought this guitar a year ago for $325 and I've been blasting out the Reverend Horton Heat all Winter. This is robbery at this point.

This is an awesome deal! Lowest it has been in this color AFAIK. I originally PMed and bought it for $299 at MF then it dropped to $279 shortly after (at Adorama IIRC), and I was able to PM it down to that and get a refund the second time. I saw it drop again to $269 in November and now it's at $249!!! This is a steal so don't pass it if you are in the market for one! Definitely worth doing the PM at MF because you get 8% CB back in addition.

I added a knockoff Duesenberg trem on mine (made by Guyler and off Amazon) and its an amazing upgrade. Im considering swapping the pickups out but they sound decent as-is.

I wish I had sat on it and waited for the price drops but it would have been hard not to pick it up even at the previous low prices

It punches way above its price point and perceptions about its country of origin. Generally speaking, the current line of Electromatics is of equal quality to their South Korean counterparts that were widely praised and sought out. If you're looking for the American-made alternative, you are going to be paying almost 10x this for the Professional line of guitars (example [musiciansfriend.com]). The pro line is definitely better, but I don't know if it's 10x better.

The only thing I'd watch out for on these guitars is the electronics. The pickup selectors on mine was little wonky. If you're handy with a soldering iron and can read a wiring diagram, the part is less than $20. That said, these are also wonderful for modding. You can swap out the Broadtrons (leans classic PAF sound) for some Blacktop Filtertrons (~$60 per set) to get that classic Gretsch chimey sparkle.

I think at some point MF will refuse to honor it. Happened to me last time I tried with them. I was able to get a Jackson Pro Series Dinky for half off from them before that, though

If you haven't played one, I recommend it. These are incredibly quality guitars. Silly at $250. This is a golden age of guitars.

Edit: of cheap guitars

Any suggestions for a decent amp or any other accessories to go with this? I'm a beginner.

Will the bt filtertrons drop in without mods and new pickup rings? I did the swap on a g2215-p90 and had to drill new holes for the pickup rings and also had to shave down the metal ears on the filtertrons so it would drop into the cavity. I wouldnt want to have to go through all that again on my g5220. I have a pair of wilkinson wogh pickups that i am considering dropping in but that would be 'taboo' in that i would basically be converting this to an LP lol

most expensive guitar i ever bought was $2700 Taylor 814ce acoustic in 2010, I regret it and sold it after 8 months or so. It didn't fit my large hands. Now I use a $800 acoustic guitar.
