2/2025 are Barracuda, not sure about drives from 1/2025.
Or run CrystalDiskInfo to check what type of drive it is, as another poster mentioned: the exos drives should show up as : ST24000NM002H
the barracudas are : ST24000DM001

01/2025 here not sure what it is.
Use barracuda and they just used exos for short period of time ? With just 1 year warranty ans higher temperature and slower transfer speeds compared to exos , I am not sure if it make sense to Mix and match few exos and few barracudas .. I also have iron wolf drives also

The benchmarks you provided are interesting. It looks like there's roughly 30MB/s difference between them, in sequentials. That's about double the 15MB/s difference I'd expect to see if these were the HAMR Exos drives. Despite the HAMR Exos drives being newer than the Exos X24, they're mostly a little slower. BTW, the big difference in random 4K writes is likely due to the fancier caching algorithms in the Exos line. They can only maintain that speed for a few seconds.
Let me tell you, I am overwhelming this drive.
Rereading what you wrote. Sounds like you're overwhelming the USB interface. Best buy says this drive is USB 3 gen 1. That's only 5gbps with a real world max speed of 400MB/s. Much higher than these drives should do, which is around 250MB/s. Check that your usb cable, and usb port. Could be bad cable or plugging into a slow port.

Based on your CrystalDiskInfo, Exos drives have faster read/write speeds and run at cooler temperatures. Overall, Exos offer better performance and are likely to have a longer lifespan. From what I've read, Exos drives use CMR technology, while Barracudas rely on SMR.
I also came across a Reddit post mentioning that many 20TB shucked Barracuda drives failed after just 30–60 days in 24/7 NAS systems.
