Smashburger used to be great for vegetarian burgers. I prefer the black bean patty over the mock meat such as beyond. However, Smash stopped all their awesome promos and I can't afford a 10$ burger. With a drink, fries and taxes, it touches 20$ per person. Yah I'm not paying 100$ for a family of five to eat a burger each and fries and drink soda / milkshake.

The Smashburgers near us closed unexpectedly with a paper sign taped to the door that they would reopen next month. That was three months ago and I had $100 in gift cards to there. The next closest location is 250 miles away. I'm so sad, but yes, their revamped menu was a disappointment

A burger used to be 25¢ in 1950.
The problem isn't a $10 Burger, it's the fact that wages haven't kept up with costs.

I agree about your point. However in this case, it is also about managing the customer expectations. You can't keep doing 2$ and 3$ burger promos and then all of a sudden nothing. I understand it is to get your foot in the door, new customer acquisition etc. But they could have still done it every once in a while. Even if they do a 6$ burger, I'd go. 10.xx$ for a basic burger without any customizations is a bit much. Oh well, now I make my own black beans and veg patty. Sometimes I make mushrooms swiss truffle mayo version or then the spicy Baja with avocados. Far cheaper and I control everything that goes in, including the fat. maybe costs 1-1.5$ per burger max, all material costs in.

Unfortunately all the SmashBurgers in my area started providing HORRIBLE ordering experience, probably coupled with declining sales, and they are all gone from the area now. We loved the place, but also, yeah, it was pricey. When our kids were younger they had a free kids meal deal (can't remember exactly the terms) and all sorts of BOGO's that would go out. So definitely went there plenty. Was also one of the few places around that offered a gluten free bun (one of our kids has wheat induced eosinophilic esophagitis).

By 1950 standards, a burger today should be $5. That would be comparing salaries in 1950 to salaries in 2024. What is never mentioned is the cost of medical insurance for the employees and all the other paid days off and benefits that did not exist in 1950. So the base salary maybe only 20 times more, but there's a ton of other costs for that employee that the employer must bear.

I went with Morton's but it e-mails a digital code that I guess you present to the waitress to enter in? I think it would be easier with a barcode or something
