I have several of these stands. They all seem to work great. I'm very happy with their normal performance. Rechargeable AA batteries are a better value. But these stands made charging much simpler for family members and guests.
Unfortunately, they do not sell rechargeable batteries separately. This means that once the batteries do wear out, there is not an option to replace them. You would need to purchase a whole new stand. Or find a compatible battery from another vendor.
Also, these aren't great for travel. Unless you intend to bring the stand with you, you cannot recharge these batteries. You'd need to grab normal AA batteries.
