ST/TF/TW unlocks require a plan purchase. So you can no longer activate a new TF branded phone on an existing plan and get it unlocked. This is a new unlock policy since July 2024. The wording "This deal is good for existing straighttalk customers." is not entirely true if the idea is to unlock on an existing plan.
You can disable anything in Android with adb. Also realizing that most people don't know this but once you disable Device Pulse and Mobile Services on TF branded Androids, you will no longer get auto-installed bloatware. I disable these before connecting to WiFi.

Even as a "power user" I don't care about unlocking the bootloader if it takes 2 minutes to disable the two bloatware packages. I noticed that TF also stopped using the TF splash screen, at least on the midrange Androids, which gets rid of another reason to load the stock ROM.
It will unlock on day 61 after activation. It only requires initial service activation, no renewals needed. It should unlock automatically remotely when connected to wifi.

It's automatically unlocked on day 61 or I need to call in to request unlock? Also does any plan on Straight Talk work in 2025?
Here's from their terms (copied below). Since Straight Talk doesn't indicate which carrier will provide service, how can we know whether we're unlocking on the 60-days-after-activating Verizon or the one-year-of-service Anything Else?
For customers with phones capable of remote unlocking: Straight Talk will automatically unlock phones capable of remote unlocking when eligible. For all phones Activated with Straight Talk prior to November 23, 2021, the phone will be remotely unlocked upon request after twelve (12) months of active Straight Talk Service. For phones capable of remote unlocking Activated with Straight Talk Service on the Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the phone will be automatically remotely unlocked sixty (60) days from Activation. If the phone was activated with Straight Talk Service on any non-Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021, the phone will be remotely unlocked upon request after twelve (12) months of active Straight Talk Service.

Verizon has owned the Tracfone brands (Straight Talk, Total Wireless & Tracfone) since 11/2021, all phones activate on Verizon. 60 day unlock has been explained in every deal thread numerous times.

For a true Capitalist there is only One browser add on.

I got this phone last year, I love it, and it is my daily driver. Since I'm a true phone geek, this is compared to my first hand use of various iPhone, pixel and Samsung phones. Thanks for the tip on 30% cash back. It tipped me over the edge and I got another one as a backup. Though I have not had any problems with it, folding phones are inherently more fragile, or at least that's how I justify my purchase.

Okay, thanks. Their materials still say that they may activate on other carriers, and the terms I quoted in my prior post suggest that phones may be activated "on any non-Verizon network on or after November 23, 2021." You're suggesting they have reliably been unlocking?

They're not good at updating the website. Their locked phones will not activate on other non-Verizon networks, only on Verizon.
I suggest reading any of the many earlier deals on SD, plenty of information from previous users.

Thanks. I saw much information saying their phones were good on all networks. Now I've wasted some money.

Why?
Phone is good on most networks - after it's unlocked. It just requires activation & 60 days first.

Good price, definitely worth considering if you're sticking with Straight Talk, but not ideal if you're planning to switch networks soon.

Ah, I think I misunderstood your post about not activating on other networks--do you mean that after Verizon has unlocked the phone after 60 days, it can then activate on another network (T-Mobile, specifically)? I am out of touch, but I thought Verizon phones do not generally work with other carriers. Appreciate your help.

Of course, once unlocked it's not limited to one network - I've been able to use Verizon ST & TF branded/locked Motorola/Samsung/iPhones on other networks for years once they're unlocked.

This is no longer true. Latest Tracfone moto phones will not allow you to disable device pulse with adb or by any other method. I bought a moto edge from Total off another deal a few months ago and that was the case.

I visited straight talk through the browser add on. As I recall, the cashback wasn't very impressive, and I didn't bite. Then I received an email later that day with the subject "offer at straight talk for you!" with a link for 30%, max $250, with a link to unlock the offer, expires March 12.

Not sure what algorithm they are using, but you may need to allow marketing emails, at least for a while, to get the offer?

Thank you for this info. I knew about Device Pulse, but I had never heard of Mobile Services before. As it turns out, that's because it's a hidden app. I had to search in the settings to see it. After googling for info about those two, I discovered another hidden app called Google Partner Setup that people also recommended disabling.
